OS6 user password change

I've just bought a ReadyNAS 316 (RN316662E) for my company and I can't see where local users set their own passwords - is there nowhere that this can be done?

Doesn't look like this feature was added to the new OS like the 4.2 platform had.

Are you kidding me? I have an old Sparc Duo at home and it has this feature. I just assumed that OS6 would. The E at the end of the model number stands for Enterprise! Perhaps the architects thought that all enterprises had LDAP servers. We don't though. We're a small company of 10 and like lost of startups these days pretty much everything is in the cloud. There's other things which seem wrong. Why does ReadyCloud, ReadyRemote, ReadyDrop and the local user on the ReadyNAS itself have to have separate accounts? This seems insanely complicated for services which all access the same underlying data source. What about having some kind of oAuth between these services? I have a support call open as the ReadyCloud stuff doesn't seem to work with this NAS as advertised. The telephone/remote support has been responsive and committed so far (going up the escalation chain) but the documentation for this NAS seems to be quite limited. I've still got the best part of two weeks to decide whether or not to return the unit.

Okay found it, not very obvious. Had to look at config files via SSH (/etc/frontview/apache/fv-admin.conf) to find what it was.
The User Manual does not mention it at all, only how to change admin's password.

This NAS isn't happy - it won't reboot gracefully either. Seems to get stuck in the shutdown process.

Ah - odd that it throws a 500 for something which isn't there 🙂 surely thats a 404. Well, I look forward to the update. Maybe it fixes other stuff too.

Actually, when a new account created, and if you set an email box for the account, the email box will receive a welcome mail like this:

Congratulations! You have been given access to network storage space on nas-BF-10-5E. Your login and initial password are set to the following:

User name: an
Password: 1

To access the files from Windows, type \\nas-BF-10-5E in the Explorer Address bar.

You can change your password at 'https://nas-BF-10-5E/password_recovery/my_password.html'.


You can just use this url: https://NAS_IP(or host name)/password_recovery/my_password.html.
