Open access for everyone

Open access for everyone

I have this issue every time I try and make a new shared folder for everyone to access. I've created the folder set CIFS to "Allow guest access", set advanced CIFS Permissions to "Automatically set permissions on new Files and folders", everything there is set to read/write.

The problem is when anyone created a new file or folder only they have the read/write access. Everyone else can only read the file or folder. I can go in to the Advanced Options and set the group to "nogroup" and the folder owner to the share folder name. I then reset the ownership rights and that works. But for all new content it has the same issue.

I just want an open folder with no permissions. How can I make this work, it shouldn't be this complicated to make a folder everyone on our network can easily access.

Re: Open access for everyone

Hi,

Allow read/write access, allow guest access and in Advance options for share folder owner - nobody and share folder group - nogroup.

Re: Open access for everyone

running 4.1.10 on an NV+ and this does not fix the problem. perhaps you could indicate where allow guest access is located ?

Re: Open access for everyone

"guest access" is listed in the "Share Access Restrictions" section (first section of CIFS config for the share),

Re: Open access for everyone

Thanks stephen. Unfortunately on my NV+ there is no "guest access" anything under the "share access restrictions" all that section has is a dialog to allow only certain hosts, with a clickbox. perhaps this is a problem with the NV+ and 4.1.10

My NV+ is running 4.1.9, and has that control at the very bottom (last item in that section, right above "Share Display Option".

Re: Open access for everyone

Stephen,

I'm having a similiar problem running 4.1.10 - (I have a separate thread).

However, in 4.1.10 on my 1100 or NV+, I don't have any options regarding "guest access" - can you provide a screen shot of what you have in 4.1.9?

Re: Open access for everyone

Under Security>Security Mode, change it to User mode. Then you will have the Guest Access option on Share Listing.
