Performance decrease with Ultra-6
MOD NOTE - post split from viewtopic.php?f=21&t=70847 since it is unrelated to OS6
Hello,
I experience similar issue with WD20EARX on an Ultra6. Started recently.
Performance 90MB/s, HOWEVER regularly (every few minutes), the performance degrades to a crawl for seconds. Sometimes long enough to generate an error (windows, media streamer, tablet...)
Cannot watch/listen streaming media. Sometimes the client freezes
Q:
- Drives have 700.000+ load cycles (discovered the issue only recently), are these drives shot ?
- The 20EARX are not on the compatibility list but...does it matter so much ? I hesitate to change them 6 (+1 spare) for WD20EFRX $$$
- Is it worth going back to formatting and reinstall ?
- Is there an alternative to OS 4.2.24 ?
Tx 😎

SOLVED
Hello,
For the record, here is the resolution :
The WiFi router (WNDR3700 Netgear), configured as Access Point only, was plugged on LAN port. BIG MISTAKE : only when connected to the WAN port did the problem disappear.
The problem was regular (every 30 secs) freeze on the NAS for 2-10 seconds - sometimes with timeout.
I do not understand exactly why but there it is.
I am in love with my Ultra6 again   😎 😎
Best regards

Re: Performance decrease with Ultra-6
I've seen that AP issue with some other Netgear routers. I think there isn't much buffering in the LAN switch, and it can overrun if you connect it with a LAN port. Using WAN (in AP mode) solves the problem, since the connection is bridged through the router software. Peak throughput does drop a bit (but of course you need a stable connection).
