Permissions issue since rebuilding PC with Win 8
Hi,
This might be more of a Windows OS issue and ACL 101 .. but here is my problem.
I have an Ultra 4 and originally moved all my contents to the NAS when running Win 7 on my PC.
I then installed a new SSD primary hard drive and installed fresh Windows 8.
I kept the Win 7 hard disk and can swap to boot into this at any time (fortunately!!)
From the Windows 7 environment I tried setting one of the shares "my documents" to have full rights for user "Everyone" in the Windows file security. THe aim was then to logon to Win 8 and then lock it down to my new windows 8 user account.
However I can't browse and see the share.
In Explorer, I can see a directory called "browse Folders" .. It has a few directories there, but none of my shares such as MyDocuments.
Following the suggestion in another thread to use the advanced options to reset the file permissions on this share (leaving it with default of nobody/nogroup), I checked the tick box and waited for confirmation of the rule being applied. After the dialog appeared confirming it had done the change, I still can't see Mydocuments...
Any suggestions. I'm hoping when I now switch back to Win 7 that the local user still has access or I'm trouble!

Re: Permissions issue since rebuilding PC with Win 8
A couple of obvious things to check are (a) is the Win8 system in the same workgroup as the NAS, and (b) is the win8 network connection set to home or work?
You might also check the windows credential manager, and see what user name / password it is using to access the NAS.
Does the Win8 system have the same user account setup as the Win7 system? What about the computer name?

Re: Permissions issue since rebuilding PC with Win 8
I managed to "see" the shares, by doing a Map network drive. Maybe this is on the only way to see them, as opposed to browsing the Nas in explorer?
It asked me for a user name and I used the one I setup in the Nas for share access, so that is fine. Will this be cached for subsequent sessions, or do I need to authenticate every time?
In the global settings under Network in the NAS, the windows network is WORKGROUP.
The default windows network is setup on Windows 8, and this is called Homegroup according to explorer...
Should I change the NAS to homegroup? What would be the benefit?

Re: Permissions issue since rebuilding PC with Win 8
I just had this problem and here is what I did.
1. Under Network in File Explorer select the ReadyNas
2) When prompted for the username/password select the other user button.
3) Enter a ReadyNas username/password. I used my admin/password combo.

Is this with security mode=share?
