Quick question about ReadyNAS 516
Can I operate the unit with only two HDD in RAID 1/2 (mirrored). If I put in two smaller HDDs say 1 Tb, how do I scale up the capacity in the future. Can I stay with two HDD or do I need to insert additional drives? Can I switch from RAID 1 to RAID 5 at that point?

Re: Quick question about ReadyNAS 516
If you use the default XRAID you can gain capacity either by adding disks or replacing 2 disks with larger ones. Each disk you add has to be at least as large as your biggest installed disk. The expansion is done automatically.
Flexraid also lets you expand, but you end up with multiple volumes. For most folks XRAID is better.
