RN102 - Management service offline after 6.2.3 update

Hi,

I'm running a RN102, NV+ and a RN104 at work, and I updated the RN102 to 6.2.3 today, as soon as I saw that there was a new firmware available.
The installation was unsuccessful, and I got an error message teling me to reboot the device. I rebooted it, and the power-LED began flashing blue (which it still does, an hour later).

I am unable to logon to the admin-interface, the device responds to ping and I am able to browse the smb-shares. When using RAIDar, I am getting the error Management srevice is offline", this message appear after the device has been online for ~2-3 minutes - before that no errors.

I have not yet tried to do a factory reset or anything, I thouhgt I'd try my luck here first.

Screenshot of the error-message from the admin-page aswell as RAIDar:

Cheers,
Martin

Re: RN102 - Management service offline after 6.2.3 update

This is something which would require remote access to the system to investigate.

Re: RN102 - Management service offline after 6.2.3 update

I had a similar issue, but my rn102 would not even show up on the network, and the blue led kept flashing. After a couple of hours my so pulled the plug by mistake and connected it again, and it booted without an issue.
Since yours still responds to pings, you can try a few things if you have ssh enabled. You can check the logs with journalctl, and you an force a reboot with "reboot", and if you know which systemd unit is the one for the management service, you can check it's status with "systemctl status unit-name".

Re: RN102 - Management service offline after 6.2.3 update

Sadly, I dont have ssh (or much else) enabled on the device.
I'm gonna move the device from my datacenter to my office today, hopefully i'll be able to open it up for remote access.
---
When I got to my dc the power-LED had started flashing again (had it in tech-support mode yesterday and it wasn't flashing). I've since moved it to the office, tried a normal boot (same error) and put it in techsupport mode again.

irxc, you should be able to access the management service again now.

That is correct, the device is up and running just like before the firmware-upgrade.
Thanks a million!

Re: RN102 - Management service offline after 6.2.3 update

Hi, I have the same issue after the upgrade on RN312. Is there a documented solution?

This is what I can get to from RAIDar logs, also when I ssh, it looks like readynasd and snapperd are consuming abnormal CPU (50% and 20%). These segfaults appear to occur 4 times a minute

Re: RN102 - Management service offline after 6.2.3 update

We have 10 of the 2120 ReadyNAS devices.
Someone in our IT department attempted the 6.2.3 update.
No one will admit they did. So I have two questions and hope I can get direction from the forum members who have the same issue on how to resolve.
First, is there any way or any settting the will trigger the NAS devices to automatically upgrade the firmware?

Second. I am now faced with the same "Managment service offline" problem.

If I reboot the device, I can see it in RAIDar for a minute showing version 6.2.3 of the firmware. It will then go to the status of Management service is offline.
I am able to ping the device. I am able to browse the network and view the shared folders on the device. If I attempt to create a folder or write data to the device I get "There is not enough space on the disk"

I would appreciate any advice and direction on how to correct this problem. I have downloaded the 6.2.3 firmware from the Netgear website and have it on USB. I am not sure if I can initiate a firmware from the boot menu. Just looking in to that.

Please advise.

Hank

Re: RN102 - Management service offline after 6.2.3 update

I went ahead and sacrificed one of the non-working devices.

First I tried the "OS Restore" that did NOT work.

Second I tried the "Factory Reset" and that did the trick. THIS WILL ERASE YOUR DATA. USE THIS OPTION WITH EXTREME CAUTION.
It seems to be up and running fine now. This will require the device to be completly setup again.

This is NOT the solution if you have data on the device that you want. It WILL ERASE ALL DATA. In our case we only use them for backup. I will try some other less destructive options on the other unit and post if I find a better solution.

Re: RN102 - Management service offline after 6.2.3 update

I have an RN 102 with the same problem. Upgraded to 6.2.3 and now the Admin Page is offline. Everything else works fine. I do have SSH access and the logs show readynasd segfaulting repeatedly and systemd restarting it over and over. Admin Page can't load because of "Premature end of script headers: dbbroker.cgi". I'd really rather not do a Factory Reset if there's a fix for this. 🙂
TIA

This can probably be fixed by logging in to TelNet or SSH, the best way is to contact support for now.

Re: RN102 - Management service offline after 6.2.3 update

Hi, Same management service problem after multiple attempts to update software to 6.2.3 on a Readynas 102, including factory resets.
In addition the box sometimes freezes, requiring a hard reset.
This after running properly for a period of time.(hours not days).
Unless box has frozen, fault can be cleared by soft off and then on.
Prior to 6.2.3 I ran 6.2.3 Beta T1773 with no problems.
Any Thoughts??

Re: RN102 - Management service offline after 6.2.3 update

hhubler and shhambrook I have sent you PM's.

The firmware will not automatically be updated but when you open the web admin interface you will be automatically prompted to update if there is an update available. You can choose to decline to update. We have removed 6.2.3 from the update server so you should not be automatically prompted to update any systems you have not updated already.

bamakojeff I see support has sent you an email update to your case.

Re: RN102 - Management service offline after 6.2.3 update

I am having the same issue.
RAIDar shows that I am on 6.2.2
Timemachine backup works....
This happened a few weeks ago, but I just got around to monkeying with it.
As far as I know, SSH was never enabled.
I could format it and start from scratch, but I would rather not.

Re: RN102 - Management service offline after 6.2.3 update

GGITech, on 6.2.2 it would be a different issue to the one on 6.2.3, but I can take a look. Just sent you a PM.

GGITech encountered the app uninstallation issue on 6.2.2. The problem he encountered is not an issue that would be run into on 6.2.3.

Re: RN102 - Management service offline after 6.2.3 update

Hello !

I am experiencing the same issues on my RN102 since the update.

Symptoms :
* When I connect to http://NAS_IP I am not redirected to https://NAS_IP/admin as I used to be before the update.
* When I connect to https://NAS_IP/admin, I am prompted to type my admin login/pass, and then I have "Device is offline, please wait" message box within the usual UI, but no active buttons. (I can press ignore, but the page is unusable)
* I have tried to reboot the NAS many times, no luck. (tried unplug/replug, reboot via ssh, reboot via power button, reboot via RAIDar)
* I have tried OS reinstall mode, no luck either (I dont want to factory reset my NAS to avoid losing my data and settings)
But :
* I can access all smb shares
* Web apps on other ports such as pyload work fine
* I have ssh access to the NAS
* RAIDar detects my NAS and says "good health", both disks are fine.

Thank you in advance for your help

Regards

Re: RN102 - Management service offline after 6.2.3 update

Hello All.
Mine is a RN104 updated to 6.2.3.
After trying the update it said update failed and to try it manually which I didn’t know how to do. I could not power off so I unplugged the unit then crossed my fingers and plugged it back in. it did update and says so on the front. I can’t get to my admin page and it says Management service is offline in RAIDar. Both disks are good and I’m around 73% full. I reinstalled twice but can’t get to the page. Ssh works, streaming to tv works, I can access the files ok but can’t get to the admin page. The only app I was using was transmission. I can’t get to it through the browser either. I removed transmission but the problem remains.
Power button now works and stays on. Bottom display stays on as well so I can see my update version and ip. Hate to wipe the unit if there is a simpler fix.
Anyone come across this kind of problem. Thanks in advance for help.
