RN102 : can't access admin page after upgrade to 6.10.0

Hi everybody,

I upgraded my ReadyNAS RN102 from 6.9.5 to 6.10.0, and now I can no longer access the ReadyNAS admin page. Everything seems to work otherwise: I normally access the NAS files via SMB, but also with RAIDar and even by ssh. The status of the NAS with RAIDar is: "Management service is offline".

I did an OS reintall via boot menu, but that didn't change anything. Does anyone know of a way to recover access to the admin page without having to restore the factory settings and thus overwrite all the data ?

Thanks in advance !

Re: RN102 : can't access admin page after upgrade to 6.10.0

If you want to try a manual reinstall of 6.10 (from the linux command line), then the commands would be

# cd /root
# wget http://www.downloads.netgear.com/files/GDC/READYNAS-100/ReadyNASOS-6.10.0-arm.zip
# unzip ReadyNASOS-6.10.0-arm.zip
# echo /root/ReadyNASOS-6.10.0-arm.img > /etc/.flash_update
# reboot

Make sure you log in as root (not admin)

Hi StephenB,

I did what you suggest. But unfortunately the problem is not solved. Still "Management service is offline".

Do you think I can try something else ?

Thanks !

Were you running any apps?  If so which ones?

Also, do you have a backup of the data?

Netgear support might be able to repair the issues in your log.   You could try paid support (my.netgear.com) or perhaps wait for some guidance from @JohnCM_S

Re: RN102 : can't access admin page after upgrade to 6.10.0

I have the same problem after the latest stable upgrade, except that my system is totally inaccessible. ReadyCLOUD says my NAS is offline, but I can see it's connected to my router (Nigthawk R7000). Is there a way to reset the whole thing and start all over again. I have data backup, so it would be ok.

Re: RN102 : can't access admin page after upgrade to 6.10.0

Some more info from my NAS...

  • Power button and LED = Blinking
  • Disk LEDs (1, 2) = On
  • Disk activity LED = On
  • Rear panel Ethernet port LEDs = Green blinking, amber off

Seems to me the system will not boot correctly, so is there something I can do?

What status is RAIDar giving you?  https://kb.netgear.com/20684/ReadyNAS-Downloads#raidar

Re: RN102 : can't access admin page after upgrade to 6.10.0

Try powering down the NAS, and then remove the disks (labeling by slot).

Then turn on the NAS, and see if RAIDar can find it (reporting a "no disks" status)

Is it possible that internet security software is blocking it?  Perhaps try disabling any AV or Internet security software on the PC

Can you ping the IP address? (whatever you are seeing in the router).

Re: RN102 : can't access admin page after upgrade to 6.10.0

All my machines is running Linux with no AV/Internet security and everything have been working alright for the last three years until the last firmware upgrade, so that's where something went wrong.

Ping seems ok.

Re: RN102 : can't access admin page after upgrade to 6.10.0

If ping works, then perhaps try to boot the NAS into tech support mode (with disks installed).  You can confirm that it works by trying to connect to the NAS using telnet.

See pages 20-23 in the hardware manual for instructions on the boot menu: http://www.downloads.netgear.com/files/GDC/READYNAS-100/ReadyNAS_%20OS6_Desktop_HM_EN.pdf

Re: RN102 : can't access admin page after upgrade to 6.10.0

Hi @eichen,

I checked the readynasd.log and saw these messages:

May 10 22:39:09 CORNEILLE readynasd[26170]: Error rndb_import() ==> rc=5
May 10 22:39:09 CORNEILLE readynasd[26170]: dba import failed
May 10 22:39:10 CORNEILLE readynasd[26248]: readynasd log started
May 10 22:39:10 CORNEILLE readynasd[26248]: readynasd started. (restarted=0)

It looks like the database file is corrupt. Please enable the remote access so we can further check what caused it. You may enable it by using the URL: https://ReadyNAS_IP_address/start_svc=remote-access.service. You should see this on the page:

After enabling it, you can get the 5-digit code from RAIDar then PM the code to me.

Hi @JohnCM_S

Thank you very much for your help. Remote access is enabled. I sent you the 5-digit code by PM. Should I do something else ?

Best regards,

Re: RN102 : can't access admin page after upgrade to 6.10.0

Hi amarajmera,

Welcome to the Community!

It will be best for you to create a new thread about the issue on your NAS. Although you are experiencing the same symptoms, the root cause may be different.

Regarding the issue on your NAS, you may download the system logs then provide it to us. We will check the cause of the issue. You may upload it to a file-sharing site then send to me the download link via PM (private message).
