RN102 don't boot after FW update to 6.5.1 - Cannot navigate in boot menu - recovery tool don't work

Hello,

Yesterday I tried to update from FW6.5.0 to FW6.5.1

The NAS tried to reboot (I received a system mail) but never rebooted. No access through web interface or SSH.

I cannot navigate in boot menu options pressing the backup button after having pressed Reset before powering on : only the "Act" light is on.

OS6 recovery tool don't work (as there is not indication at all, I can only suppose it doesn't work after an hour...)

Please, help !

Regards,

Romain

I see from your other thread that there was a hardware issue and your unit was replaced via RMA.

Hi farf,

Update this thread with more information if you have issues with the replacement unit or mark this thread closed if you don't have any.

Hello,

I live in France and in August France and myself are on holidays 🙂

So I'll just receive the new chassis on Monday. I'll keep you informed on Tuesday.

Hello,

Is there a way to make the replacement chassis running with my two hard drives without losing my data, configuration etc ?

I just inserted my two hard drives in the replacement chassis and booted up, but I'm unable to connect to the administration console.

The good point is that the boot menu is fully functional... but I'm afraid I'll have to flush my disks ?

Hi farf,

Do you have access to your files? Does your ReadyNAS show up in the RAIDar utility (if you have it installed) on your computer?

Looking forward to your response.

Re: RN102 don't boot after FW update to 6.5.1 - Cannot navigate in boot menu - recovery tool don't w

Hi Brian,

Thanks for your help.

My NAS does not show in RAIDar. My router does not even log DHCP request from the MAC adress of the NAS. I think I read somewhere that the NAS does not boot if the disk are not "recognised" as the ones of the NAS or formatted ones.

I imagine I could try to mount the hard disk under another Linux system to backup my files... but I'd like to avoid it ! Isn't there a way to make the new chassis recognize the disks of the former chassis ?

Re: RN104 won't run boot menu, stuck on "boot from USB"

I suspect, after much troubleshooting and scouring the forums, that based on what everyone else is experiencing, the latest netgear firmware bricked my unit.

On rebooting the RN104, it goes straight into "boot from USB"

I created a recover USB, and insert it into the unit and restart the power. And then I get "ReadyNAS USB recovery", and after a few minutes the RN104 shuts off.

On the reboot, it goes back into "boot from USB".

I try and press the reset on the back with a paperclip on the reboot, but it does not give me the boot menu. It goes straight again into "boot from USB".

I believe my unit needs to be RMA'd.
