RN10200 - slow folder exploring

We are having an issue when using file explorer on a few machines there is sometimes a really slow initial access of the folders. like 20-30 seconds before things show up (this only happens 2-5 times a day). this happens on 3 of our machines and two others it doesnt. i have uninstalled antiviruses on the machines. we are all running gigabit to the same switch. so shouldnt be a network issue. the readynas is running the latest firmware 6.10.1 and i have checked setting there is not anti-virus option on the readynas. the hard drives are in a x-raid - raid 1 and both drives apear healthy. all systems are running windows 10 and the only extra function the server is running is a google drive back up.

any idea's what could be causing the intermitent slow searches?

Hi @jamesnz2019, you wrote "this happens on 3 of our machines and two others it doesnt", which pretty much narrows it down to an issue on the workstation side, as the nas should not treat clients with identical properties differently. To investigate, which processes are running on your windows 10 clients and might cause this issue you could use Microsoft's "Process Explorer" as it is somewhat more powerful, than the built-in task manager. Here is a link to the official download page:

https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/downloads/procmon

Kind regards

Just for the records: Should your three workstations, which experience the issue, all at the same time access the same object(s) (browsing folders, reading/writing files) you might see the responsiveness of RN102 degrading. Kind regards

Are all these machines accessing the same shares?

If not, perhaps compare the share settings.

Also, the number of files/folders in the share will effect the browsing speed.

How many machines are simultaneously accessing the NAS?  The RN102 is an entry-level model intended for home use.  Part of the puzzle might be that it just isn't powerful enough for your needs.  If budget permits, perhaps upgrade to an RN422.

Also, if you upgraded to a 4 bay business model (RN424 for example) you could also deploy ReadyTier (metadata and data caching on a pair of SSDs).  That would also increase browsing speed.
