RN104 "Retry Startup" problem
Getting "Retry Startup" on RN104 with 4 - 2T Seagate drives in RAID 10 mode that has been in this configuration since Aug 2013. Unit blinking green power button and will only power down by pulling power cord--doesn't respond to "soft" power down. Accepts log in when using LAN address access, but after a long period returns "Management Service is offline" and can't access any logs. RAIDar shows same message. Using 6.4.0. Are still able to access the file contents normally, though seems very slow in data transfer from remote computers. Have pulled power a couple of times and continues to reboot into same flashing power light/retry startup mode.
Reluctant to try USB reboot as based on what is on this forum in other discussions this doesn't appear to be an operating system issue--but not finding any solutions to fix this. Any help appreciated.

Re: RN104 "Retry Startup" problem
This doesn't appear to be an issue that would suggest corrupt firmware on the internal flash, so trying USB Boot Recovery would be a waste of time.
It is an issue on the root volume on the disks.
Are you able to download the logs using RAIDar 6.1 and then send them in (see the Sending Logs link in my sig)?

Re: RN104 "Retry Startup" problem
Disk 1 has failed. I have PM'd you the serial number of this disk.
Also one of the databases is corrupt.
Do you have a backup?

Re: RN104 "Retry Startup" problem
mdgm: Thanks for the response and info.
No, do not have a recent backup. As I noted, am still able to access the files on the drive and have pulled off the majority of the important files.
Can replace failed disk you identified. Suggestions on how to deal with the corrupt database? When I put in new disk will the database be rebuilt and the unit reboot correctly?

Re: RN104 "Retry Startup" problem
Should now be fixed.
The particular issue you ran into that caused the "retry startup" error is addressed in the next firmware release (6.5.0). Note that there are other possible causes of this error.

Re: RN104 "Retry Startup" problem
Hello, I had the same problem.
When i powered my NAS on, it says booting and after a few minutes he says only "RETRY STARTUP",
i can't power off the NAS normaly, i was forced to pull the power out of it.
After i put the power on, it came again with "RETRY STARTUP"
I pulled the plug again and removerd all HDD's and replace thos HDD's with an other HDD who has not been in my NAS.
I did install the NAS again but now only on that ONE HDD.
After the install was finished, i did a firmware update to the last update.
After the Firmware update was done, i was able to power off the NAS like it should be.
After the NAS was powered down, i removed that ONE HDD, and put my 4 HDD's back in to the NAS, and rebooted it again.
Now everything was back to normal, only the Firmware was now updated but everything else was just fine again.

Re: RN104 "Retry Startup" problem
I had exactly the same problem this morning.
I had an email this morning from Netgear stating a new firmware is out so I decided to update my NAS.
I tried to log on to the admin page but got a timeout saying it might be busy (it wasn't).
I restarted my NAS twice (by pulling the plug) but got boot failure.
The only way I managed to resolve this is by copying the advice above, luckily I had a spare drive that I could insert to bring the NAS back up again.
Very disappointed in Netgear that I had to resort to doing this, as it's clearly a firmware issue and not a hardware one.
