RN314 - Upgrading disks

Hello,

I have a RN314 with already four driver, 2x1TB and 2x512GB.

Each pair of disks is in RAID1 (apparently flex-RAID, I guess) mode.

I'm about to upgrade the 2x512GB drives with 2x4TB WD RED drives.

I have been reading around here about the correct procedure to do that, but I would like to have some confirmation...

If I understood correctly, I should

- switch off the NAS

- remove one HDD

- insert the new one

- switch it on and wait for resync

- off again

- remove and change also the second drive

- again wait for sync and then it should expand automatically to the new size

Is it correct?

Of course backup as usual before doing anything...

Thanks!

Re: RN314 - Upgrading disks

There's no need to turn the NAS off.  You can remove one of the 512GB drives with the system running, and hot-insert the replacement.  After the rebuild completed, so the same with the other one.

Another option is to copy the data temporarily, destroy the 512 GB data volume, remove both the old drives and insert the two new ones. Then create a new RAID-1 volume.
