Back to the issue insted of talking about the lack on support from Netgear.
I have opened a support case for my issue. so far they have not provided any solutions that help.
I have disabled all scheduled backups, I have disabled the antivirus software on the RN314, and I have re-booted the RN314 a few diffrent times to see if one of the backup jobs are still hanging in the background.

Update: The engineer I spoke too didn't have a solution at this point, but said based on the logs it appears to be the NAS going into Kernel Panic while performing the backup. He suggested I try a different USB port with the same USB drive and if it happens again, try a different USB drive - so more testing... and then upload the logs for further review. Also, the engineer doesn't believe this is related to 6.4.0/6.4.1, but I've been running the same configuration for two years without a hiccup until the most recent firmware(s) was installed. Coincidence?
