RN316 Important config Not documented

I cant find BASIC info on the RN316. Can some one please tell me:

a. Which bay is #1. The top one or the bottom one.
b. How do I visually know when a drive has failed? Does the Blue light change colour?
c. How do I swap a drive out. Can it be done live (ie: Is it FULL HOT SWAP) ?
d. If I have no spare bays, can I swap any 1 disk for a new, larger one? If not, can it be determined which drive I can swap out?
e. How do you choose which RAID I want. I believe I want X-Raid, but there's X-Raid2, plus the standard Raid levels 0 -> 10 right? Where do I set it?

This is all basic stuff. The 316 comes with a few trivial brochures. Nothing with detail, NO CD, no full manual.... we're left in the dark! Even the manuals I find on line dont answer these qus

RN316 manual downloads are here: http://support.netgear.com/product/RN31600

The hardware and software manuals answer questions b-e.

-Bays are numbered top to bottom.  That should be in the hardware manual, but somehow never makes it.

-Disk leds turn red when the disk fails, was removed, or is synchronizing.  Its off if no disk is present.

-You can do a full hot swap, and I always recommend hot-insertion.

-You can upgrade disks for larger ones, the impact on storage depends the starting and ending disk configuration and the raid mode.

-The top-level choice for RAID is to choose XRAID2 or FLEXRAID.  XRAID2 was introduced a long time ago now, and it generally just called XRAID unless the context is a v1 sparc NAS.  Chapter 2in the software manual covers volume configuration in detail, I do recommend that you read it before you set up the NAS.

Re: RN316 Important config Not documented

Note that hot swapping is for replacing disks you no longer wish to use e.g. because the disk is failing, or you wish to use a higher capacity disk.

We don't provide a CD as it's not needed. All the manuals and the KB articles are online and any version included on a CD would quickly become outdated.
