RN3220 unresponsive after upgrade to 6.9.3

This past week, we had a disk failure in our RN3220. I replaced the disk and the resync occurred with no issues. The process took a touch over 22 hours.

Once the resync was complete and the unit reported itself healthy again, I applied the 6.9.3 firmware update via the admin web interface. The RN3220 was running 6.9.2; we have 6.9.3 running without issues on our RN4312.

After the firmware update, the reload of the admin page timed out in my browser. I gave it half an hour, cleared my cache, and reloaded the page- still no response. I came in this morning to investigate further, having given the 3220 about twelve hours in the unresponsive state.

I found the following when I arrved: the 3220 does not show up on RAIDar or answer pings at its normal static IP address, and a WireShark capture doesn't show any traffic at all from the MAC addresses of the two interfaces that are connected (although the switch has link and autonegotiates 1Gb speed). Plugging a patch into one of the unused interfaces hasn't caused it to generate any additional traffic- no DHCP assignment, etc.

The upper LEDs on the disks are all green, but there's no activity on the lower LEDs. The power light is flashing green, although I swear I saw pulsing rather than flashing at one point. I haven't been able to time it exactly, but it seems like the unit goes back to standby after about 15 minutes in the pulsing green state. The fans spool down at this point, and otherwise it sounds like they're running at top speed. I have removed power and let the unit sit for ~10 minutes, then reapplied power to see if it boots cleanly; no success there either.

I'm hoping to determine a next step here.  I was hoping that this was a case of having to wait for hotfixes to be applied, but that doesn't seem to be the case.  This unit has enough internet access to get hotfixes, and there's a DHCP server on its network.  I've created a bootable USB disk, but I'd like to be clear on the implications for the existing data before I use it.  This unit is not used for business-critical storage, however, there's a lot of stuff on there that would be extremely time-consuming to recreate or pull from backup.

Thanks in advance for any advice!

Re: RN3220 unresponsive after upgrade to 6.9.3

USB Boot Recovery doesn't touch the disks. The sole purpose of USB Boot Recovery is to repair the internal flash if that needs repairing.

However if the firmware on the flash doesn't match the disks the system will automatically attempt to repair the mismatch.
