RN516 with OS 6.2.1 hangs network on Fritz!box 7360

Hi Forum,

I have a weird issue with RN516 with OS 6.2.1 and Fritz!box 7360 router with OS 06.20 and firmware 111.06.20. Before upgrading to OS 6.2.1, the setup with the same router worked fine.

Now, as soon as I connect the RN516 either directly to the Fritz!box or through a switch, all network connections are lost for the entire network. The log shows "PPPoE error: Timeout.".
When I look at the logging of the router, at the moment I connect the RN516, the PPPoE fails with the message "PPPoE error: Timeout.". When I disconnect the RN516, after a while the connection comes back. See the logs below.

The RN516 actually shows up in the devices list, with the assigned IP address. So it seems it can reach the DHCP. But after that everything hangs until I disconnect the RN516 again.

At first I thought it was a problem in the router. So I troubleshooted with the ISP helpdesk, but that didn't help much. They made me reset to factory settings. That still didn't help. Now they are going to send me a new router. But after testing with another 7360 from a friend, I can rule that out. The behaviour is exactly the same. So that won't help either.

The RN516 front display continously shows "Cannot connect discovery service".

  1. What does this message mean?

  2. Is this a know issue?

  3. How can it be fixed?

  4. log from 7360 router:

Re: RN516 with OS 6.2.1 hangs network on Fritz!box 7360

I created a more general thread for this problem here: http://www.readynas.com/forum/viewtopic ... 65&t=79118

I had the exact same situation with a 314 and a DrayTek Vigor 2130Vn.

When did you update to 6.2.1? According to this thread — http://www.readynas.com/forum/viewtopic ... 65&t=79120 — there were two 6.2.1 "final" updates. Reverting back to RC3 solved the issue for me, and I'm hesitant to update to the final 6.2.1 in case this problem persists even in the "final final" 6.2.1.

EDIT: You're using IPv6? That might be a commonality. I'm using IPv6 locally too.

Re: RN516 with OS 6.2.1 hangs network on Fritz!box 7360

Yes, I updated to 6.2.1 and have IPv6. So it looks we have a similar problem. And I think having the 2 network cards in a bond doesn't help either. If I connect both my PC and RN516 on a switch I can ping the RN516 from the PC, but about 50% of the pings fails. This seems to me consistent with the round-roubin setting I have for the bond. I actually tried to remove the bond, but from that moment on I was unable to properly reconnect to the RN516 to get the admin pages. Will read the articles you mentioned next.

Perhaps try an OS Re-install

Yes, did exactly that. But I joined another more general thread on the same subject. Probable root cause was identified by _frantic_ and possible fix was suggested and tested by me:
