RN524X 10G port to Multi Gig 5G port of the MS510TX switch

Hi,

I own a RN524X NAS model.

I want to buy a 10 Gb affordable switch. I am interested in the Netgear MS510TX Switch.

It has 1xRJ45 10Gb port, 1x SFP+ and 2x 5Gb ports.

I have a server with an ASUS 10 Gb LAN adapter that will connect to the switch 10 Gb port.

If I connect the RN524X to one of the 5G ports, will I get 5Gb link or the NAS will drop to 1Gb link ?

Else, is there a compatible SFP+ adapter for the MS510TX to connect an RJ45 copper cable to the 10 Gb RN524X port ?

Note: 5Gb speed is fine for me to the NAS

Most likely not - because if the RN524X does not come with a Multi-Gig capable 10GbE interface, it would negotiate to 1 GbE.

Official answer: The Netgear AXM765 SFP+ Transceiver 10GBASE-T (max 30 meters)

Inofficial answers:

There are Netgewar AXM765 compatible SFP+ modules available in the market for a fraction of the Netgear price tag, also limited to 30 meters..

The "smaller" Netgear switches don't check the product ID of the SFP+ modules (residing in a Flash) - you can have luck with "any" Generic (or other brand marked) Compatible 10GBASE-T SFP+ Copper RJ-45 Transceiver Modules which are available for driving 30 meters (less expensive) or up to 80 meters (more expensive). The limited reach (compared to 10GBase-T) is because of the limited power available on the SFP+ ports.

many thanks !

However, are we sure the RN524X 10 Gb port doesn't support Multi Gig standard ? Is there a way to be sure about it ?

Prices of 3x 10 Gb switches are crazy...
