ReadyDLNA rescan in NV+ V2

I've just updated from a ReadyNAS Duo to a NV+ V2. Viewing my files via DLNA is showing all sorts of 'incorrect results'. To be more specific many null folder listings and files in the wrong location etc... This did happen on my Duo as well, normally when adding new folders to the share which the DLNA server was using. However in the old option I was able to press a button that caused the files to be rescanned and that fixed the problem. Now I have the same problem with the NV+ V2 but the option to rescan the files is not present. I have tried using the slider control to turn the ReadyDLNA service off and back on again. Also I have tried rebooting the NV+ V2. Neither have worked unfortunately. Could anyone shed any light on this?

What version of RAIDiator are you running? Have you tried the new RAIDiator arm 5.3.2?

Yes. I upgraded to that yesterday. Didn't seem to make any changes to the GUI (at least regards to readyDLNA anyway).

Re: ReadyDLNA rescan in NV+ V2

Same problem here. Null folders in readyNas Duo v2. No option to rescan folders in the interface. Is there a way do to it manually, even in SSH?

Thanks.

Re: ReadyDLNA rescan in NV+ V2

Seems to be similar issues with the new ReadyNAS Duo v2 (running arm v5.3.2)...

DLNA appears to be a bit flakey - if you update/add any files its doesn't update the DLNA side of things (i.e you correct a ID3 tag - the original is still streamed, or if you even rename a subfolder and/or a file - again the orignal version is still streamed). There appears to be no 'Rescan' option (as found on the older version 1 ReadyNAS boxes)... Even a reboot doesn't seem to fix things - only fix is a Factory Reset and ensure you only upload 'perfect' files for DLNA streaming...

Also have problems with ReadyNAS Remote to iOS devices (iPhone/iPads) - keeps asking you to check/enable FTP Service on your iPhone/iPad for access - but there appears to be no way of doing this on the new ReadyNAS v2 boxes...???

Can't comment on ReadyDLNA - don't use it

Re: ReadyDLNA rescan in NV+ V2

From my perspective, DLNA is just not working. The thing is DLNA certified though. Is this self-certified?

By the way: happy new year...

Re: ReadyDLNA rescan in NV+ V2

This ReadyDLNA addon is giving me a nightmare as well. Initially i didn't twinkle with this add-on and everything was fine, I could see all files and folders on my ReadyNAS NV+ from my PS3. A couple days ago i decided to play with ReadyDLNA addon and added a couple of media folders, did the rescan/apply thing and almost everything was lost. Now i can only see 1/4 of the files and folders on my ReadyNAS.

I also have got PLEX media server running on my PC pointing to my ReadyNAS media folders and i am able to access all media contents from my JB Apple TV with Plex plugin.

My network setup is as follow: ReadyNAS and PC are hardwired (via ethernet) to my ADLS Modem/Router and my PS3 and Apple TV are via WIFI.

Only reason I want to access my ReadyNAS via the PS3 with ReadyDLNA is to watch 1080p contents. Apple TV with Plex is bloody awesome but I am missing the processing grunt from the PS3. If only somehow the PLEX plugin find its way to the PS3, my life would be complete.

Now back to the ReadyDLNA addon ... will disable this addon and see if i can get my files back ... or wait for the next ver of ReadyDLNA.

Re: ReadyDLNA rescan in NV+ V2

Same problem here. This is really a serious problem, especially considering the current lack of add-ons for ARM based ReadyNAS.

Did anyone open an issue/ticket about this issue?

Re: ReadyDLNA rescan in NV+ V2

Are you willing to try 5.3.3 beta?: http://www.readynas.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=148&t=60215

If you update to that and then download the logs zip file (open the dashboard, click Configure, go to Health > Logs and click download logs) and extract the zip contents what does upnp-av.log look like?

Re: ReadyDLNA rescan in NV+ V2

I just acquired my unit and I don't want to void its software warranty. But since my disks are empty, I can try the beta firmware and see what happens. But I won't be able to keep this beta firmware, since I want to have tech support.

I'll give that a try.

Re: ReadyDLNA rescan in NV+ V2

So, here is my upnp-av.log As you can see, it scans a /c/Media folder, but there is no folder such as this one in my drive. In fact, I renamed it to c/public folder (it shows in my FrontView without the "/" before the "c/public"). Inside such folder, there are still c/public/Music, c/public/Pictures or my c/public/Videos. I must say that I did set c/public to be shared via ReadyDLNA service, and I assume it scans my subfolders.

Re: ReadyDLNA rescan in NV+ V2

Have you tried turning ReadyDLNA off then on again? Is there a reason you needed to remain the /c/media folder? If you do you could try renaming it back, then disabling ReadyDLNA, then renaming it to public again and then re-enabling ReadyDLNA and see if that works.

Re: ReadyDLNA rescan in NV+ V2

I renamed my /c/media folder to /c/public because people here are used to using a "public" directory to share things.

I did a factory reset with the 5.3.3 BETA firmware, cleaning up my disks. Then, I created some users (I did not attach to no shares, but I thought that I should mention that). Then I copied some music into the /c/media folder and waited some time. I went to check on my LG TV and the song list updated ok. After that, I added pictures and a movie, and everything did show on my LG TV. Afterwards, I renamed the folder to /c/public and, although the files were listed, I could NOT view or listen to my media. So I stopped the ReadyDLNA service and restarted it. Again, all media was listed, but I couldn't view or listen to anything. At last, I tried to reboot my ReadyNAS, and I had the same problem again.

I made all that via the FrontView interface. Here is my upnp-av.log. It seems to me it shows the database was not updated.

Re: ReadyDLNA rescan in NV+ V2

5.3.3 has been posted. When you open the dashboard you should be prompted to update. Please update to that firmware.

Re: ReadyDLNA rescan in NV+ V2

Hi All,

I was having similar problems with my Netgear Readynas Duo v2. Similar problem, no way to force a rescan of the media. To resolve the issues with NULL folders try deleting the folder.jpg in the affected directories. After this you will need to force minidlna to rescan as follows ....

1. Install the root ssh access add-on if not already done
2. Login as root (default password will be the admin password)
3. Find the minidlna process
$ps -eaf | grep minidlna
4. Kill the minidlna process with the following command
$kill -15 <process id>
5. Restart the minidlna process with the following comnad
$minidlna -R -f /etc/minidlna.conf

This will restart with the -R (Rescan) option which will rebuild the mysql database. It takes a good while, so be prepared for a wait if you have a large media collection.

If you still have problems, try killing the minidlna process and start it with the debug option .....

$minidlna -d -f /etc/minidlna.conf

Monitor the output for any errors ... or save the log to check it offline

$minidlna -d -f /etc/minidlna.conf | tee -a /tmp/minidlna.log

Hope this helps!

Cheers,
Ripface.

Re: ReadyDLNA rescan in NV+ V2

Hi!
Probably a good tip by ripface, but I want an option where I don't have to use a commandline.

Netgear, please make ReadyDLNA able to rescan with a button in the Dashboard-solution!

Or maybe one of you supergeeks out there can make a add-on for NV+ V2.

Re: ReadyDLNA rescan in NV+ V2

I am willing to try the kill and restart idea, but when I try to install the root ssh access add-on, I am told "Invalid update image" when trying to install EnableRootSSH_1.0.bin and "architecture is bad" when trying to install EnableRootSSH_1.0-x86.bin. I assume only one of them is right for the Duo v2, but since the first one didn't work I tried the other.

So, any ideas about how I can install the root ssh access add-on successfully?

Re: ReadyDLNA rescan in NV+ V2

Hi Mohare,

If any of the add-ons has "x86" at the end then they are only compatible with intel based devices. You want the EnableRootSSH that is for the ARM processor used by the ReadyNAS. You can find it here ...

http://www.readynas.com.nyud.net/downlo ... .0-arm.bin

Have fun!

Cheers,
Ripface.

Re: ReadyDLNA rescan in NV+ V2

thanks. An additional question... looking at my upnp-av.log file, it appears miniDLNA is already stopping and restarting by itself.

is this the same thing as running the kill/restart from the command line?

Re: ReadyDLNA rescan in NV+ V2

Is that when you rebooted the NAS? minidlna will be stopped when you reboot the NAS.

Re: ReadyDLNA rescan in NV+ V2

Well.... good question. I am looking at the log and don't think that every time that set of lines appears I have rebooted. I've rebooted maybe 3 times in the last two days but that set of lines has appeared many more times than that.

Also, is it significant that "creating new database" and "scanning media" appear only once each in the log, apparently back at the factory?

Update: Just to check, I did a system reboot (from dashboard) and the following entries appeared in the upnp-av.log (note, yes, I had an abba folder on my media share along with many other music folders; it just happened to be the first alphabetically). I've since deleted both it and the "hilarys pictures" folder from the c:\media share, and moved them along with all my other files/folders into individual shares (pictures, music, videos), but the readyNAS is still looking for those two in their original locations, and doesn't see anything in the new shares. What does it take to get the readynas to rescan the data?

Re: ReadyDLNA rescan in NV+ V2

So any progress/update on that bug.
I'm on Duo v2 with latest firmware 5.3.3 and the problem still occurs.
Where is the source code for that plugin?

Re: ReadyDLNA rescan in NV+ V2

Try updating to ReadyDLNA 1.0.24: http://www.readynas.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=76&t=27946

To install on the Dashboard, click Configure, go to the Add-ons tab, click the + button at the far right, browse for the location where you downloaded the add-on, upload the add-on etc.

After updating to 1.0.24 if that doesn't fix it this add-on will remove the ReadyDLNA database and thus force the ReadyDLNA database to be rebuilt on the new version: http://rnasguide.com/wp-content/addons/arm/DLNAREBUILDDB_0.1-arm.bin

Re: ReadyDLNA rescan in NV+ V2

Thx,

DLNAREBUILDDB_0.1-arm.bin helped 😉

But is't just a workaround.

1. Please Add this functionality to the GUI as add on or directly to the firmware in the ReadyDLNS service section as a button.
or
2. Please fix that issue 🙂 renaming/removing folders or files should update DLNS DB.
