Re: ReadyNAS 102 upgrade to 6.4.0

I have come up with a better and more reliable solution. I have bought a WD NAS...

Re: ReadyNAS 102 upgrade to 6.4.0

Everyone.

Just got this email from Netgear.

Dear ReadyNAS® Customer,

We want to thank you for being a loyal customer and would like to notify you of a firmware update, V4.2.28, for your ReadyNAS. You can download it here.

The V4.2.28 firmware will be the last software release on all the select ReadyNAS products listed on the web page below, including yours, due to its end-of-life status.

http://www.netgear.com/landing/eol.aspx

Interesting, they declare my 102 at end of life even though it's still in the warranty period. Great, thanks a bunch Netgear.

I will attempt a firmware update but only after others have tried it first and only after my new NAS devices have arrived in order to secure my data.

Cheers all, good luck.

Re: ReadyNAS 102 upgrade to 6.4.0

Whoops.

My fault entirely, misread this email.

This is for my earlier V1 Readynas.

What a coincidence this should arrive now.

Anyway, the old V1 is working a treat and has saved me twice so far when the new 102 has failed miserably.

I shall not update that firmware, leave well alone.

Cheers all.

Re: ReadyNAS 102 upgrade to 6.4.0

I switched off antivirus in NAS102 and NAS 102 is runing with much higher speed. It look like NAS antivirus did this problem.

Re: ReadyNAS 102 upgrade to 6.4.0

Further to my email above.

Just got this from Netgear.

Dear ReadyNAS® Customer,

We’d like to inform you that the firmware upgrade alert sent earlier this week was sent by mistake. The ReadyNAS OS 4.2.28 update is not applicable to your ReadyNAS Duo (RND2000) or ReadyNAS NV+ (RND4000).

We apologize for the inconvenience or any confusion this may have caused.

Thank you for being a valued customer, The ReadyNAS Team

So I wonder, had I been stupid enough to have installed this on my ReadyNas V1 would I have wrecked that too? That would have been so good after wrecking my 102 with 6.4.0

Netgear get your act together, if I'm a valued customer, then give me a little more quality.

Re: ReadyNAS 102 upgrade to 6.4.0

As you likely know, that original email generated a lot of questions from v1 owners here.  The redaction was probably an attempt to resolve those questions more broadly to customers who don't participate here.

FWIW, The v1 NAS have been end-of-life for some years (though apparently many owners were not aware of that).

It would not have installed - the NAS checks the firmware update for compability, and that test would have failed.
