ReadyNAS 204 Will not shut down fully, shows do_exit+9ec

When trying to shutdown my ReadyNAS 204 it hangs with an error of do_exit+9ec on display.  The only way to recover is to disconnect the AC power cord and reconnect.   I have the most current version of firmware as of 05/27/17.  Version 6.7.4.  Same error occurs regardless of how it is done. Occurs when shutting down from the power button or from the system device webpage.  Any suggestions?

Had a similar problem when I first purchased this unit.  A beta firmware solved the problem then.  The problem reappeared when upgrading to the next publicly available released firmware.

Please advise.  Thank you.

Do you have anything plugged in to the LAN 2 port?

Yes,  have cables in both LAN ports.  This problem occurs even with just one LAN port is connected and with bonding off.  Ijust set up LACP this weekend on my switch and NAS.  Works ok for a short while.  Then the top LAN port goes dead on the NAS.  Have tried different patch cords, different switch ports on switch.  Troubleshooting always leads back to the NAS as the problem. I just discovered the top LAN port problem this weekend.

Re: ReadyNAS 204 Will not shut down fully, shows do_exit+9ec

Has this issue actually been ever root caused or resolved? I'm now on 6.9 and am experiencing this very same issue. Restart works, but shutdown leads to do_exit_9ec message.

Re: ReadyNAS 204 Will not shut down fully, shows do_exit+9ec

There was an issue that was located back in April, where if you had WoL enabled and a WoL magic packet came in while the box was running, it would prevent shutdown.  That's the only shutdown failure that we've been able to reproduce and debug.

If you're seeing issues where you're unable to shut down on 6.9.0, please describe your network, WoL, and power timer configuration.

Re: ReadyNAS 204 Will not shut down fully, shows do_exit+9ec

I'm using a quite simple network setup (default settings): eth0 link only is connected and is passed through UPS filter. The connection to the switch goes through a power line network converter.

Power settings are:

WoL - disabled

Power timer - disabled

Disk spin-down - enabled all the time after 20min inactivity

If you download the logs what do you see for WoL in network_settings.log?

That's what I see. Though a bit cryptic with 'd' or 'dg', I'd assume d = disabled

Re: ReadyNAS 204 Will not shut down fully, shows do_exit+9ec

So your router switch has 100Mbit ports not Gigabit (1000Mbit)?

Re: ReadyNAS 204 Will not shut down fully, shows do_exit+9ec

That's correct my entire wired network is 100 Mbit and I'm using LAN over power adapters. Does this have any implication on the shutdown behavior?

Re: ReadyNAS 204 Will not shut down fully, shows do_exit+9ec

I wouldn't expect it to be related, but you never know.

Does this issue happen 100% of the time?  Does it continue to happen if you unplug the network cable before shutting down?

Re: ReadyNAS 204 Will not shut down fully, shows do_exit+9ec

This sounds like the NAS is waiting for some process to shut down that is not.  Since this does not seem to be common to all users, I wonder if it might be an add-on causing the issue?

Re: ReadyNAS 204 Will not shut down fully, shows do_exit+9ec

It's at a lower level than that.  The do_exit location display on the LCD means that all process were already stopped, and the shutdown pin was asserted; so getting to that part of the code is unexpected.  AFAIK, only a wake-on-LAN alarm or a wake-on-RTC alarm can prevent the shutdown pin assertion from taking effect.

Re: ReadyNAS 204 Will not shut down fully, shows do_exit+9ec

Apologies for the late reply, wasn't physically co-located with my NAS, but I've done the testing now:

network cable connected: 2 / 3, ie NAS didn't shut down twice out of three attempts

network cable disconnected: 0 / 3, ie NAS shut down all three times normally

Conclusion: Issue is intermittent and seems to be network related. Are you guys sure the fix from April hasn't been dropped accidentially in 6.9?

Re: ReadyNAS 204 Will not shut down fully, shows do_exit+9ec

I'm positive that the earlier fix is still in place.  So it looks like we'll need to do a little more experimentation.

1) Update to 6.9.1 Beta 2.  This release fixes a problem with the NIC reset code after TX timeout. There's a chance it's related.

2) Try enabling WoL and see if the system shuts down properly.

3) Note the state of the NIC LEDs after shutting down, in both cases where it shuts down properly and when it fails to shut down with the do_exit message.

Re: ReadyNAS 204 Will not shut down fully, shows do_exit+9ec

Was this issue ever resolved? I'm running FW 6.9.3 and I'm getting this same error upon shutdown regardless of whether I'm on the network at work in my office, on my home network, or if the ethernet cable is disconnected. It occurs whether or not WoL is enabled, and if I shut down via the online interface or by "gracefully" powering down the unit with the power button. In any of these situations I receive the do_exit+9ec message and the power LED blinks blue and does not turn off.

I've been having the same issue for many months through several firmware versions. Just updated to 6.9.3 and still getting the error on shutdown.
