ReadyNAS 204 shows "No IP Address"
The unit shows "no IP Adress" even though the ethernet port shows activity and the router show connection.. When I initially tried to shut the unit down it said that it was shutting down and "Goodbye" but did not shut down. It looked like it displayed an instruction something like exit800. I pulled the plug and rebooted. Still no IP address. I used the boot option to reload the firmware; which it did but still shows no IP address. Any suggestions on where to go from here? The unit will still not shut down properly.

Re: ReadyNAS 204 shows "No IP Address"
If you ping the RN204 IP address shown by your router, do you get a response?
Also, does RAIDar find the NAS, and if so, what IP address does it show?

Re: ReadyNAS 204 shows "No IP Address"
Hello Tom2B,
You can also try unplugging and replugging the LAN cable or use the other NIC as part of the troubleshooting.

Re: ReadyNAS 204 shows "No IP Address"
Neither ReadyCloud or RAIDar can see it. The router network map doesn't show the 204 as a connected device even though it and the 204 show an active ethernet connection. I guess that the 204 did not request an address or the request never was sent.

Re: ReadyNAS 204 shows "No IP Address"
Hi Tom2B,
Was your ReadyNAS configured with a Static IP address before? or was it DHCP? Are you okay with removing the drives (mark or label all of them) from your system to check if the chassis is okay?
Looking forward to your response.
Kind regards,
BrianL

Re: ReadyNAS 204 shows "No IP Address"
Hello BrianL,
The IP address was assigned through DHCP. I can remove the drives and can label. If I shut the NAS down before removing the drives, is there something that I should do when I power it back up?

Re: ReadyNAS 204 shows "No IP Address"
Hi Tom2B,
Nothing else. If the unit boots up, acquires an IP address from your network and shows up in the RAIDar utility, then chassis is okay (you can try the other ethernet port too). But if not, more likely its a hardware fault.
Kind regards,

Re: ReadyNAS 204 shows "No IP Address"
Hi BrianL,
I pulled the drives and rebooted. It booted up to the point of complaining about no drives but the NAS could not be detected by either RAIDar or ReadyCloud. It doesn't show up in the list of devices that the router is talking to either. It still did not completely shut down the display was showing something close to "do exit 890".

Re: ReadyNAS 204 shows "No IP Address"
This happened to me recently and an OS re-install (using the Boot Menu) helped me out as it resets the I.P. settings.
So do this:-
To access the boot menu:
1. Power off your storage system.
2. Using a straightened paper clip, press and hold the Reset button.
3. Press the Power button.
The system powers on.
4. Continue to press the Reset button until the status display screen shows a boot menu message.
5. Press the Backup button to scroll through boot mode options.
The status display screen shows the current boot mode option.
6. When the status display screen shows the boot mode that you need, O.S. REINSTALL in your case, press and release the Reset button to confirm your boot menu selection.
The system boots in the selected boot mode.
O.S. reinstall does not delete your data, it will also reset the admin user password to the default which is ...... password (case sensitive)
Once you have booted try RAIDar again, this should now show an I.P. address, if it is incorrect, edit using RAIDar "Admin Page" option using admin as login and password as the password

Re: ReadyNAS 204 shows "No IP Address"
Hi Tom2B,
Well that's not good. Follow bedlam1's suggestion (shut down the unit and put the drive's back in) and report back.
Kind regards,

Re: ReadyNAS 204 shows "No IP Address"
Before I opened this topic, I tried reloading the OS twice which didn't seem to change any results. That was with the drives installed. I tried it again with the drives out and RAIDar identified the NAS and it showed up on the router connected devices list. I reinstalled the drives and I'm back to the original conditions; no RAIDar ID and not in the router device list. The NAS display is showing (null)+0. A ping on the earlier working IP address fails.

Re: ReadyNAS 204 shows "No IP Address"
Maybe try a reboot without ethernet cable(s) connected and see what happens?
Then reconnect

Re: ReadyNAS 204 shows "No IP Address"
I don't have a backup. There isn't too much on it but I would like to keep it. Is the data distributed across all of the drives? If I look at one of the drive connected on another system would I be able to see anything? Can I verify drive status by connecting it to another system. I have a disk duplicator which will allow me to look at a drive.

Re: ReadyNAS 204 shows "No IP Address"
If I put the existing drives in a different/new chassis, will the drives be recognized as being usable as is or will it try to reformat everything?

Re: ReadyNAS 204 shows "No IP Address"
You can migrate the disks to another OS-6 ReadyNAS with no data loss. You'd insert the disks with the NAS powered down.

Re: ReadyNAS 204 shows "No IP Address"
With a standard RMA swap you would send in the RN204 chassis, but keep everything else including the external power supply unit and cable, disk trays, disks etc.
Support would give you an RMA number and instructions on how to send the replacement in.
After we receive your unit we would then send the replacement out to you.
My personal preference is to put a scratch disk (disk that can be wiped, must not be from your array) in the replacement NAS and update the firmware using that, then power down and move your disks across. Whilst these extra steps shouldn't be necessary (the system is designed to automatically update the firmware on the flash if the firmware on the disks is newer) personally I'd prefer to do that.
If you opt not to use a scratch disk to update the firmware first, it's important to note that if it doesn't boot up normally with your disks installed you should power down the system and ask for further instructions. Don't do an OS Re-install as if the firmware on the flash is older than what is on the disks an OS Re-install will force it to try and install the older firmware onto the disks (which may be an unsupported and unsafe downgrade).

Re: ReadyNAS 204 shows "No IP Address"
Thanks to everyone for the help with my problem. The chassis is packed and ready to be returned. I will have to see if I have a scratch disk.
