ReadyNAS 212 no longer recognizes USB disks

ReadyNAS 212 with firmware 6.10.7.
It has 5 external USB disk that are being used for backups.
Disks are unmounted automatically after the backup has finished.
Each morning the disk is replaced by the next "disk of the day".

This has worked flawlessly for the past years.

About 4 weeks ago suddenly this stopped working. Connecting the drives failed. The log showed no longer messages of drives being connected and discnnected.
Rebooting the ReadyNAS didn't solve this.

Checked the cables and got 4 disks working again. They are connected using a dual USB connector to get enough power. Disk 5 however refused to power up. That's a different disk that uses only 1 USB connector.
This disk worked fine in the past but now no longer seems to be getting enough power.

Fixed that issue by adding a powered USB hub. Now al disks are getting enough power to spin up (again) and the ReadyNAS recognises them all.
But that has lasted for only a week.
Now I'm back with the same issue where the USB drives are not being recognised.

Checked the cables again and they haven't changed. But...

The USB hub was connected to the upper port on the back. That port no longer seems to be working.
Tried the port on the front. Same result, no devices recognized.
Next I removed the APC UPS from the lower port on the back and moved it to the upper port.
Connected the USB hub to the lower port and success! The USB drive came back online.
Verified if the UPS was still recognized and it wasn't.
So I connected the UPS the USB Hub as well and now the UPS is also back online.

End situation ad this moment:
- USB hub connected to lower USB port on the back
- UPS connected to USB hub
- external drives connected to USB hub.

The upper USB port and the USB port on the front seem to be dead.

What can I do to get these ports working again?
