ReadyNAS NV+ Fails to boot after Power Failure
After a power failure my ReadyAS NV+ is stuck on " booting please wait" - As some suggested it mightbe a RAM problem I have actually replaced it with a new memory module that was purchased long time ago in order to upgrade - for some reason it was fprgotten and never was used.
anyway now it's in place but the boot problem persists- I just tried the OS reinstall but this seems to be the same story here "please wait..".
If anyone out there has a some good idea what to test next I'd be most grateful to hear about it !

The next step is to check the disks with vendor diagnostics in a windows pc (seatools for seagate, lifeguard for western digital). You can use internal SATA ports, or get a USB->SATA adapter or enclosure.
Power down and label the disks by slot number as you remove them. Also check the RAIDar status again with the disks removed (and the NAS powered).
Do you have a backup of the data?

Hi Stephen, I took out the disk ( labelled) and no the Raidar finds the RadyNas.
I did not yet have a chance to check the disks Seagate Baraccuda 750Gb) with the tool.
I do not have a backup .. the ReadyNas was mainly used for Time Machine backup of my IMAc- but I If I seem to recall I've located my iTunes Music libaray on it as well.. however in the Spotify era not frequently used. So if there's a possibility to rescue data that would of course be valuable .
Is there any specific order to put the disks back into the cabinet in order for the RAID function to do it's job ?
As the ReadyNAS is already several years old - Would you recommend replace all disks - or even replace the whole unit in order to have a reliable system for the future?

Hello HeFe,
As we always recommend, always have full backup of the data. Storing important data in just one device is not a good idea. In your case, it seems you really need to check the disks with diagnostic tools of the disks manufacturer.
When inserting the disks back to the ReadyNAS chassis, they should be inserted backed to their respective bays. I suppose you have label them as instructed by StephenB.
Insert the disks while the NAS is powered off, once all are in their respective bays, power on the NAS. You can also try doing the Skip Volume Check from the boot menu and see if the RAIDar still does not see the NAS.

Hi JennC, Things move a bit slowely as I've been traveling the last few days , however I've come so far as to try to test the individual HD 's in the cabinet . when connected to the usb SAta adapter only two of the HD´s did actually spin up while the other two did only make a cklicking sound - After some connecting /reconnection of the Power line I got a third disk to spin as well. As the disks are connected Win 7 finds them ( can be seen in the Device Manager) however the SeaTool s/w fails to find the drive connected to the USB Satat adapter when I scan for disks - so there's where we are now .
I tried to boot the cabinet with the three spinning disks but it is stuck on "Booting please wait ". I've given up the thought of retrieving the data - question is if it's even worth spending money on new HD's for this old cabinet ?

It might be possible to clone this failing disk using a tool that does sector-by-sector copy. That might get the volume back on line (often with some data corruption, since unreadable sectors can't be cloned).

I am still running my NV+, but I won't spend money on keeping it going. Newer NAS are faster and have more features and up-to-date security updates. And if you you don't need more storage, a two-bay new NAS can give you the same amount of storage you have in the NV+ (using 2x6TB or even 2x8TB).

hi again Stephen, As the dataloss won't be a critical thing and the work to try to restore some of it seems a bit overwhelming I feel that the only rational thing is to let go of the ReadyNas and let it RIP. I will look into a new two-bay solution as you suggest , thank you so much for your prompt support and advice1
