ReadyNAS NV+ (RND4000) Cannot create Raid 0 volume

I have a NV+ that was in RAID 0 and 2 HDD died.  Data is backed up so not an issue, the system ran for >4 yrs no issues once setup.  I had many issues with the original purchased unit so this product does have warts.

I installed 4 new drives and updated fw to 4.1.14 and cannot create Raid 0.     I do the factory reset and bring up RIADar (6.0) and then select Flex RAID and select Raid 0.   The volume is created with RAID 5.  I do not need RAID 5 or X-RAID (which is what you get by default).  Any idea on how to create RAID 0 with new fw.  I was using 4.1.7 and did not upgrade as if not broken do not fix.  I did the factor reset 2x with same result.

On HDD I had 4x2TB in before (Seagates) and replaced with 4x2TB WD RED NAS drives.  I determined the drives were bad as when turned system it frooze at booting.  I reset to factory and it found 2 bad disks so my thought is the NV+ is still ok, but maybe not.

Do I need to downgrade.  Can that be done.

Netgears website has many "Page not found" with regards to NV+.

I am wondering if the 4.1.14 is the cause.  Also worried that the NV+ hardware now has issues after the upgrade.

Any assistance from the community would be approciated.

Re: ReadyNAS NV+ (RND4000) Cannot create Raid 0 volume

The firmware is not the problem.

Are you using RAIDar 6.0? RAIDar 6.0 is meant primarily for our new devices. You could try using RAIDar 4.3.8 instead. Other users have found that resolved the problem for them.

Or you could simply delete the volume that is created using Frontview and then create the RAID-0 volume(s) you want. I would recommend a separate volume for each disk if you use RAID-0. With a RAID-0 volume if a single disk fails all data on the volume is lost.

Hi ML2000,

This is interesting. The system should allow you to create a single volume with (flex) RAID 0 as its configuration/type. Kindly try it again and check this documentation then turn to pages 3-7 to 3-9.

Kind regards,

Switching to RAIDar 4.3.8 did the trick.   Very confusing and I had to hunt down the software as not on Netear website, at least I could not find it.

Thanks

It is there, but harder to find than it should be.  This page has it: http://downloadcenter.netgear.com/other/product/RNDP4420D#searchResults

A direct download is here: http://www.downloads.netgear.com/files/ReadyNAS/RAIDar_Win_4_3_8.exe
