ReadyNAS NV+ Time Machine Backup stalls/locks up
We have a ReadyNAS NV+ that has been setup to use a Time Machine volume which has been locking up the Mac Pro that's using it constantly. It's not just Time Machine that locks up, but everything including keyboard and mouse. The backup will get a certain ways (anywhere from 1GB to several GB), and then stalls. At that point I may still have system response, but am unable to open additional programs, windows, unable to ssh, and usually Apple Remote Desktop will fail too. The computer will still respond to ping though. At that point we have to hold down the power button and bring it back up.
I tried the suggestion from the FAQ to add the nas to an exception for spotlight, but that hasn't helped either. The backups at first were working for a day or so and then the problem started. I've also deleted the sparse file and started fresh, but I still end up with the problem. Has anyone else ran into an issue like this? If I turn off Time Machine the system runs great, but of course the whole point of having the ReadyNAS was to use it.

What version of Mac OS X?
I think you should contact tech support for assistance and post your case number in this thread

I have 2 other mac's that backup OK.
It is killing me!

This thread has been dead for a year and is for a very different model.
What version(s) of Mac OS X?

Re: ReadyNAS NV+ Time Machine Backup stalls/locks up
Hi,
It is ver 20 beta of raidiator.
You have beaten me to a post I was going to write as I just solved the problem.
Searching for generic time machine freezing problems uncovered the following.
Sophia AV software is causing the problem. To fix you need to exclude the backup volume in Sophos preferences.
Worked like a charm.
Maybe this would be a good KB article.
Regards
James
