ReadyNAS Pro Pioneer Edition OS6.10.6 Missing Volume and Performance Status

ReadyNAS Pro Pioneer Edition OS6.10.6 Missing Volume and Performance Status

Had a drive fail in the NAS while running OS4. I removed the failed drive and ran the volume unprotected and took the opportunity to backup all my data. After the backup was finished, I followed the process to upgrade to OS6 which was successful. Once OS6 was up and running, the existing RAID was converted to X-RAID.  While converting, I added the 6th drive which then expanded the RAID to 6 drives and 9TB usable (6 x 2TB drives).

The issue that I've noticed is that the GUI is not showing anything under the System -> Volume page. It is also showing nothing under System -> Performance -> Status.  Other Performance details Volume, Network, Utilisation, Temperatue are all showing.

Previous when running 6.10.5 and while converting to X-RAID, I could see the volume information.  After conversion to X-RAID, I can't see the physical drives anymore. Upgrading to 6.10.6, still same issue.  I tried reverting 6.10.4, same issue so I've upgraded back to 6.10.6.

RAIDar says the system is healthy, Admin GUI is working correctly, just for those two issues.
Something I'm missing ?

Would be good to see the physical drives again 😞

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Have you tried clearing the browser cache?

Tried it on two different machines - desktop and laptop and different browsers on each.

Clearing cache, cookies etc ... still no luck

Odd.  Any internet security suites running?

No internet security suites running.
essentially, i could see the drives when it was converting to X-RAID, but once that finished and then expanded into the 6th drive, i could no longer see those details.
i’ve half copied over my data so far ~4TB, so trying to avoid a factory reset.

bit the bullet and did a factory reset.

took 6 hours to do a volume sync, but didn't fix the issue of not seeing any volumes or performance status info.

am at a bit of a loss 😕

removed the 6 drives and tried 2 new drives (being kept as cold spares).

booted up and went through the setup, it chose RAID1 and began synching.

checked the two pages, still facing the issue.

reverted back to the 6 drive raid setup.

bit puzzled ...

Me too.  Perhaps manually reinstall 6.10.6?

Thanks @StephenB , i downloaded 6.10.6 and tried to manually install via the Admin GUI, but it comes up with a dialogue box saying "Error Unrecognized server error." (attached the screen shot).

Is there a way to do a firmware update via SSH for 6.10.x?

Try rebooting, and see if anything changes

Yes.

You copy the firmware into the root folder, and then enter

# echo /root/ReadyNASOS-6.10.6-x86_64.img > /etc/.flash_update

Then reboot the NAS

Re: ReadyNAS Pro Pioneer Edition OS6.10.6 Missing Volume and Performance Status

thanks again for your advice @StephenB .

tried the ssh firmware update and watched it update to 6.10.6 via RAIDar.

though, still with the same outcome.

it sees the "data" volume on the front page System -> Overview and am able to setup shares and read/write to the NAS.

Some config is a miss, though you would think with a factory reset and firmware updates, it should fix or overwrite the issue.

Makes is difficult to manage/monitor the physical drives via the admin page.

Re: ReadyNAS Pro Pioneer Edition OS6.10.6 Missing Volume and Performance Status

just an update.

as i saw it working correctly during the initial upgrade to 6.9.5 (and i know it's not advised to downgrade from 6.10.x to 6.9.x), i thought i'd give it a shot.

low and behold, running 6.9.5, the volume page was populated with the data volume and the 6 bays of drives.

the performance status was there showing the drives, fans, temps etc.

now the question (and i still haven't copied over my data completely to the NAS) is to whether to upgrade to 6.10.6 again ... ??

*update edit*

so i thought, gone this far, may as well try

upgraded to 6.10.6 - volume page disappeared and performance status.

back down to 6.9.5 hotfix 1 - may have to stay here a while 😕

Weird.  I'm not seeing this on my Pro-6 - not identical to your model, mine is the second gen (-200NAS).

Re: ReadyNAS Pro Pioneer Edition OS6.10.6 Missing Volume and Performance Status

Thanks @StephenB for your help, really appreciate it.

Not sure why 6.10.x doesn't work and 6.9.5 works - would prefer to use 6.10 as there are features / settings which are more customisable.

I read a topic for upgrading which i followed:

- upgrade the bios first - BIOS_Update_Package_0.5-x86.bin

- then do the PREP4to6_0.1-x86.bin

- then finally R4toR6_6.9.5.bin

The NAS has 4GB of RAM.

Not sure how to troubleshoot it further as i would like to run 6.10, but this is unsupported legacy kit.

You could try some intermediate releases I guess (for example, 6.10.4).

The firmware has to identify the platform to show the correct number of drives, and also how to read the temperature sensors.  I suspect there is a bug in that identification in 6.10.6.  @kohdee might have some suggestions on fixing that (note it would require use of ssh).

Re: ReadyNAS Pro Pioneer Edition OS6.10.6 Missing Volume and Performance Status

Does your RNDP600E Admin Page have a serial number that is a MAC Address, or is it a NETGEAR standard 13-character serial number?  You probably need the vital product data reloaded onto the device, which I can assist with if I get a picture of the 13-digit serial number. If it's not the VPD, would need to look at your unit to determine why this is happening. Just to note that we don't officially support RNDP600E with OS 6.

Re: ReadyNAS Pro Pioneer Edition OS6.10.6 Missing Volume and Performance Status

Thanks again @StephenB - the firmware versions i tried were 6.10.2 / .4 / .5 / .6 - then reverted back to 6.9.5

Hi @kohdee , totally understand it isn't supported, but appreciate your help.  The system page does show the 13 digit serial number starting with 1YA.  I've pm'd you the serial number. I do have SSH access to the NAS also.
