I'm thinking about investing in a NAS server for simplicity. I'm presently running Windows 8 with 2 2TB drives in a mirror. I ams presently using the mirror for daily backups my OS, and to store all my videos. I'm thinking about retiring my desktop in place of a tablet.
I'm currently streaming from my desktop to my TiVo using PyTiVo (Requires Ptyhon), and to my NeXus 10 tablet using the Plex Server.
Is it possible to install PyTivo, Python, uTorrent, and my Plex server on the ReadyNAS?
Which ReadyNAS should I get that will handle my existing 2 2TB drives?
My Ready NAS Ultra 2 has plex server and uTorrent. Never heard about PyTivo but may be something similar arround. uTorrent software can be tricky to set up in the "ideal" way but there are many help threads in forum.
I did purchase a ReadyNAS 312 and successfully installed 2 4TB drives in Raid1 configuration. I had 3 must have processes that the ReadyNAS must handle in order to disconnect my PC from the network.
1) Plex Server - Successful 2) Torrent program (Transmission) - Successful 3) RSS Downloader for ShowRSS (Automatic) - Unsuccessful
I tried for almost 3 weeks to find support on setting up Automatic as a RSS Downloader for Transmission, but there was no real support, so I returned the ReadyNAS 312. Also, there was a problem with Transmission intermittently shutting down (known problem).
I have been searching for a good replacement NAS for the last several seeks. After comparing multiple NAS devices in the same category as the ReadyNAS 312 I have settled on the Synology DS214play. I will receive the new NAS next week. Comparing them both I found the DS214play to be superior, not only in hardware, but app availability and it has the ability to perform all three of my requirements.
