ReadyNAS RN212 - sudo rsync from multiple sources...

OS6.10.2

I am trying to get rysnc working from my laptops to the NAS. I have configured my user for ssh and uplodaed a public key from both laptops and both laptops can backup ok (well, an rsync test run works ok).  I also want to be able to 'sudo' backups from both laptops. So, I have also then created public keys for root on both laptops and put (made a copy of) the generated keys in /tmp so the NAS browse can find them. On the primary laptop, the rsync works fine, but on the second laptop, the rsync fails with a public key error. The ssh key appears to be set up in exactly the same way against the admin user and appears in the list against root@myLaptopName (so two entries - one for each laptop). Any ideas on how to debug this and find out why I cant connect?

Error is:

root@NAS_IP: Permission denied (publickey
