I'm trying to setup "aggregation mode" using this hardware as it was recommended to me to hit my budget as well get the best possible performance. "bang for the buck"
After i've completed the Installation of the ReadyNAS 204, I followed the video on YouTube that showed how tro setup aggregation mode for both the NAS and router.
- I logged in to the X8 8500 router and made sure that "Enable (LACP-IEEE 802.3ad)" was checked which it is
- l logged in to ReadyNAS 204 and created a new bond between nic-0 and nic-1, using nic-0 as the primary when creating the bond.
- Set the mode to "LACP-IEEE 802.3ad" and layer "2+3" as the video indicated
- The ReadyNAS is connected directly to the X8 8500 router via the aggregation ports (Ports #1 & #2)
- The Windows 10 PC is connected to Port #3 on the X8 8500 router
- Also checked the X8 8500 router stated that aggregation was set to "actve" which also shows the ports with a green outline around them
After following the video the ReadyNAS shows up under "Network" as ReadyNAS, but I'm unable to access it. It states that it cannot be found. If I go back in the ReadyNAS 204 admin page a delete the bond I can see the shares under ReadyNAS when I click on it from the same "Network"
A friend me that his setup the same way and his is working and he is seeing pretty decent gains when copying large files, which is what I'm shooting for as well.
I'm at a loss for as to what I may be missing here, and what to try next to get aggregation working.
Do you know if there is any particular reason it why it wouldn't work as NETGEAR advertised in via the video on YouTube or in the manual?
It did work when I tested it, but that was some time ago. Were you unable to reach the NAS (for instance ping, or \\nasipaddress in file explorer)? Or did you just have a discovery issue (e.g., the NAS didn't show up in network - but perhaps was still reachable).

Often people don't really understand what NIC bonding can (and can't) do. NIC bonding is helpful if you often have multiple users accessing the NAS.
But if only a single user is accessing the NAS, you will NEVER see gains unless you are also using NIC bonding on the PC (and usually you won't see gains even if you are doing that).
