ReadyNas 6.9.2 Error After Update - Contact Support

ReadyNas has been running fine for over two years and now just after Christmas when I updated to 6.9.2 all of a sudden I get reports that System Volume Root is 86% and to contact support. Tried to contact support but apparently they want money to fix their issue.

FYI... I have no snapshots and am running no Apps other SMB. My drive was getting full but I cleaned it up and it is now down to 65% and I still get the errors. I have ran the scrub but no change.

Is anyone else having this issue? I have searched all over the community and found similar problems from years ago that had to do with snapshots but this is obviously not the case.

it is OK now after delete it,  md0 is 29% used now.

Note: I copy that file to /apps folder, if you system have problem after delete it, I can copy it back.

If you want to investigate the OS partition fullness yourself, you'll need to enable SSH, and use the linux CLI to take a deeper look at the OS partition.

crosstraxcmi@gmail.com

I had already enabled ssh and looked for large files and found nothing but the logs inside rsyslog which is at 5GB but everything I read said not to delete these log files.

Re: crosstraxcmi@gmail.com

rsyslog is included in some 3rd party apps. Which apps do you have installed?

We use the systemd journal, so your rsyslog is essentially duplicating this information.

Re: crosstraxcmi@gmail.com

As I said in the first email, I have no apps installed other than SMB.

Has that always been the case?  I'm wondering if you have some files left over from an app which was uninstalled.

The OS partition is only 4 GB, so a 5 GB file from rsyslog isn't really possible.  But some of the folders are used as mount points, which can complicate the space analysis.

Re: crosstraxcmi@gmail.com

There was a program called iStat (?) installed but I never actually used it and it was turned off. I removed it yesterday.

Anitvirus was on a year and a half ago as well but I removed it over a year ago. The drive had been running fine the whole time I was gone abroad over the last year and then when I got home I installed the newest update at Christmas. That is when the error messages started.

Is there something (or somewhere) specific I should be checking using ssh?

Re: crosstraxcmi@gmail.com

well, rsyslog shouldn't be there, so maybe remove that stuff.

Re: crosstraxcmi@gmail.com

So, it sounds like you are saying that the rsyslog folder and all the files in it should be deleted? Seems odd when based on the dates of the files it looks like they are currently being written to.

Shall I post a picture of the directory structure showing this?

That means that something needs to be uninstalled before you delete the folders.  Did you look at apt-history.log and packages.log in the log zip?

Remote to check your NAS,

ibdatal is too big in mysql,

root@MainBackup:/var/lib/mysql# ls -alh
total 2.3G
drwx------  5 systemd-timesync input 4.0K Jul  6  2017 .
drwxr-xr-x 26 root             root  4.0K Jan 28 19:45 ..
drwx------  2 systemd-timesync input 4.0K Jul 19  2015 Syslog
-rw-r--r--  1 root             root     0 Jul 19  2015 debian-5.5.flag
-rw-rw----  1 systemd-timesync input 5.0M Jul 10  2017 ib_logfile0
-rw-rw----  1 systemd-timesync input 5.0M Jul  9  2017 ib_logfile1
-rw-rw----  1 systemd-timesync input 2.3G Jul 10  2017 ibdata1
drwx------  2 systemd-timesync root  4.0K Jul 19  2015 mysql
-rw-------  1 root             root     6 Jul 19  2015 mysql_upgrade_info
drwx------  2 systemd-timesync input 4.0K Jul 19  2015 performance_schema

This is known issue for mysql app,

Check mysql configure, datadir is /var/lib/mysql, we filed the issue before, but the third party didn't fix it until now,

Can I delete it? or you may delete ibdata1 via SSH by yourself.

root@MainBackup:/etc/mysql# cat my.cnf
user            = mysql
pid-file        = /var/run/mysqld/mysqld.pid
socket          = /var/run/mysqld/mysqld.sock
port            = 3306
basedir         = /usr
datadir         = /var/lib/mysql
tmpdir          = /tmp
lc-messages-dir = /usr/share/mysql
skip-external-locking

Re: crosstraxcmi@gmail.com

Thanks, Evan. So far it has not given the error message at all since.

Still not sure why this started happening after the last update of where mysql came from. I should be able to delete the whole folder really as I am not using it (I don't think)

Cheers!

Re: crosstraxcmi@gmail.com

Hi Evan

Sorry to bother you again but it appears that my ReadyCloud app will now no longer connect. I can login to my ReadyCloud account online ad see my Mainbackup drive but it has no folders off of it at all. I can still login from my other computer using ReadyNas Remote and acess all my folders and files but no wiht the ReadyCloud app. Can you think of any reason for this?

Thanks

Doug

I didn't do anything for you ReadyCLOUD, when you can't use ReadyCLOUD, it should be Netgear is deploying ReadyCDLOU server at that time.

Re: crosstraxcmi@gmail.com

Oh, you are saying that they were doing maintenance on the ReadyCloud servers and so the whole system was down? Kind of scary that all the servers would be down at one time.

Okay, thank you again!
