ReadyNas Duo V1 not accepting new disk
I have been using my ReadyNas Duo V1 for many years with no problems. Recently one of the disks starting to report reallocating sector counts increases up to 481 after a very short period. I decided to change the disk. I was using two 1TB drives ST31000528AS in an x-raid disk mirroring configuration. I have purchased two 3TB drives ST3000DM001 (which is listed on the list of approved drives) to replace the old ones.
I removed the old failed disk and replaced it with one of the new ones. Frontview (4.1.14) registered the 'Disk Add' event but it reports the disk staus as 'Dead'. I then tried the 2nd new hard disk thinking it might be a faulty disk but it gave the same result. I restarted the ReadNas and also swapped the disks around (moved from slot 1 to slot 2) but the same error was reporetd. Frontview also shows the disk status as yellow flashing.
My intention was to install one of the new 3TB disks, let the system mirror the data and then remove the old good 1TB disk and then install the second 3TB drive to give me the greater capacity all with my original data.
The config is shown as follows:
Hostname: | NAS |
Model: | ReadyNAS Duo |
Serial: | 24M1947800269 |
Firmware: | RAIDiator 4.1.14 [1.00a043] |
Memory: | 1024 MB [2.5-3-3-7] |
IPv4 address:: | 192.168.0.101 |
Volume C: | Online, RAID Level 1, 2 disks, 56% of 925 GB used |
Any and all advise glady welcomed.
Many thanks for your help.

Re: ReadyNas Duo V1 not accepting new disk
Hi ChrisL2,
These pair of hard drives that you've tried to install are not compatible, but it doesn't mean that they won't work. I suggest that you first backup up your data before we try to replace and make these hard drives work with your ReadyNAS unit.
Kind regards,
BrianL

Re: ReadyNas Duo V1 not accepting new disk
Hi BrianL,
Thanks for your reply. I just looked at the compatibility list and realised that I must have selected the wrong device. I have backed up the data already. Is there any chance of making these disks work or is it time I start to think about an upgrage to a newer ReadyNas as this one is about 6 years old.
Thanks for your support.

Re: ReadyNas Duo V1 not accepting new disk
Your duo v1 is limited to 2 TB drives.
If you need more space than that, you will need to upgrade. You won't be able to migrate drives from the duo - the newer product are very different.
The RN102 is the current entry level model (and is about 3x faster than your duo v1). Though the RN200 and above are worth considering.
If you want to use Antivirus (or want to use Plex) then get at least the RN200. The RN300 and above have lifetime chat support for software, the RN100 and RN200 are limited to 90 days software support.
