ReadyNas RN104 - Bittorrent Client
I currently have a ReadyNas NV+ v1 and just realised today that Netgear have brought out a new range of NAS. I am interested in buying th ReadyNas RN104 and I have checked the features and specs but could not see if it supports a torrent client. Could someone be kind enough to confirm or deny if it has a built in or add-on bit torrent client?
Thank you.
Thank you.

There is no torrent client built-in. I'm not sure if there is one available at the genie app store.

Transmission is available for the 104. Highly recommended, it is a fantastic BT client.

Thank you for your confirmation. I saw your earlier thread about problems intsalling apps. I have had the Readynas NV+ for about 9 months and generally well pleased with it though mine is used mainly as media server. I am seriously thinking about upgrading to the 104 and was wondering about your experiences apart from the app installation issue going from v1 to the 104?

Re: ReadyNas RN104 - Bittorrent Client
In all honesty it for the most part seems like more of the same. It obviously has the cloud features like Readydrop but I don't use those.
It is nice to have snapshots finally. The genie app service is a horrible horrible experience.
The tool-less disk installation seems extremely flimsy. The plastic contraption seems like it will snap off at any time. They could have built those disk caddies better, especially for the price. I also don't like that the door is now glossy plastic. Not only seems cheaper but attracts a lot of dust and it really shows up.
I am glad they've finally bumped the ram up in these devices, albeit to only 512mb. They've been skimping on this for far too long. Add-ons run well with the specs, sabnzbd/couch potato/sickbeard/transmission all seem to have enough resources.
I wouldn't recommend this device as readily as previous models, it is still good but I would take a good look at the alternatives this time before making a choice on the readynas.

Though the plastic insert seems a bit flimsy, it seems to hold the drives just fine. The tray design overall is not flimsy. I definitely like the fact that you don't need hard-to-find screws.
Probably most RN customers should look first at the 3xx models - moving up if they want more CPU/memory, and moving down if they are more cost sensitive.

Re: ReadyNas RN104 - Bittorrent Client
randonut thank you for posts and review they have been very helpful. I was torn between the Synology DS413j and the Readynas 104 but decided against the Synology DS413j after reading about people posting in the community forums about their network performance woes with the device. I have gone for the Readynas 104 as my past experience with the Readynas NV+ were very positive.
