ReadyNas X6 failure - Any chance of data recovery?

My X6 which has been a reliable bit of kit for a number of years has flaked out due in no small part to user stupidity. Drive 3 failed as indicated by logs and leds on the front of the device. I swapped in a new drive to slot *2* and let it sync. I wish that I could say that there was beer involved but no.

I powered down and returned the drives to the original configuration but it now is stuck at 35% volume check. When it reaches this point, I cannot access it via Raidar to see its status. Frontview does not work.

I have reflashed the firmware and attempted to skip the file check without success. The firmware flash results in the same problem (locks up in file check) and the skipping the file check either is not working or locks up immediately. The net effect is the same.

Are there any other troubleshooting steps that I can try? I have backup but they are out of date. I would like to get the X6 working again if not recover the data.

Re: ReadyNas X6 failure - Any chance of data recovery?

Unfortunately due to user error the chances of data recovery don't look all that good.

How dead is disk 3? Do you have a spare new disk you could try to clone it onto? Do you have a PC you could hook the dead disk 3 and a replacement disk up to for doing the clone? I'd recommend cloning the disk using dd_rescue

Do you remember what version of RAIDiator is on the unit?

I'm guessing the old disk 2 is probably useless due to it becoming out of sync with the other disks in the array.

Ah yes the high price of user error 😕

Yes, I can clone disk 3 or try to. I'll give it a go and report back.

Were you able to clone the disk? Did that make any difference?

Please reboot this unit to telnet mode and forward the port 23 to internet, then PM the IP address to me. I can help you to check your issue.
