Betreff: Readynas 102 connection problem with Apple Macs
Thanks for that. If it cannot be shared its no good then as both Macs need to access the same folders.

Re: Readynas 102 connection problem with Apple Macs
so, I've played with vfs objects and it seems to be working form me...
in the SAMBA config file (log over ssh onto your NAS as root)
/etc/frontview/samba/Shares.conf
I've put in "vfs objects" for each share
for Example
[Download] vfs objects = fruit streams_xattr path = /DATA/Download comment = "" .....
I'm not sure if it the right way to do, or may be my mac has actually cached all the files local due to my tests... but it seems to be working.... and of course you should turn off Preview Feature in Finder on each Mac to speed up the access time
something like this http://blog.skynet-solutions.net/post/52968299699/photoshop-could-not-save-file-because-write-access
and one more thing, this file will be overwritten as soon as you change your shares configuration over the web interface, perhaps it will work also in the file that shall not be overwritten
smb.conf.overrides
but i didn't test that...

Re: Readynas 102 connection problem with Apple Macs
I think mdgm tried this on the back end but perhaps he could confirm what he tried.
Still getting nowhere with this issue.

Re: Readynas 102 connection problem with Apple Macs
I had a small backup glitch after I restored my configuration on 6.4.2. The problem was that the scheduled backup jobs weren't running - disabling the schedule and re-enabling it was enough to solve it.
One thing you could try to do is recreate the backup jobs (a bit painful, and any incremental jobs would need to make the full backup first).

Re: Readynas 102 connection problem with Apple Macs
Just had an email from the client to say the nas has frozen again when trying to do the backup over night. Backup light is flashing but they have no access to the Nas and the power off button does nothing. All they can do is unplug the power!
This is not a good situation. I guess I will have to delete or suspend (is that possible?) the backup job until we can rectify the backup problem thats causing the crashing.

You can disable the backup schedule from the web UI.
It's possible that the backup issue is a symptom, not a cause. For instance, a disk failure or a corrupt btrfs volume might be the real problem. Did you (or mdgm) look at the disk health or check the volume integrity?

Yes I am pretty sure it all checked out ok when mdgm was looking at it. The backup worked fine until the client went and upgraded the firmware and looking around I think others have had similar problems with 6.4.x. IVe not had time to look at possible solutions. Ill see later if I can get mdgm to have a look remotely. They are a bit vunerable now though as they have not done a succesful backup since 27 Jan. Its only 250GB of data though so I may just copy it all somewhere on the network in the interim.

If you can copy it off easily, your best strategy might be to do a factory reset with 6.4.2 and start fresh.

Re: Readynas 102 connection problem with Apple Macs
There was a typo on the first line of the /etc/frontview/samba/smb.conf.overrides file. I have now fixed this. The vfs_fruit module should now be in use.

Re: Readynas 102 connection problem with Apple Macs
Good news! Initial reports after restarting the macs is they are connecting much faster. They are still taking 20 seconds or so to access the folders but they were pretty much griding to a halt before and taking several minutes sometimes.
I have asked them to report back later today.
Thanks again and big thanks to mdgm for all his time and effort.
Just need to sort out the backup problem next!

Good to hear. Do you have another thread open for the backup issue?

No, I probably should start one. Ive not heard back from the client since Friday, I think they were backing up manually over the weekend so Ill catch up with them today and see how its all going and how they want to proceed.
The backup stopped working and just crashes the server after the upgrade to 6.4.2.

Re: Readynas 102 connection problem with Apple Macs
Have started a new thread regarding the back up here. https://community.netgear.com/t5/Backing-up-to-your-ReadyNAS/Readynas-102-not-backing-up-and-freezin...
Looks like I will be going to site at some point in the near future as well rather than working remotely all the time.

Hi brosnahan1114,
Welcome to the community!
Can you tell us which Firmware and unit are you using? Are you having trouble with the performance (SMB/CIFS or AFP)?
Looking forward to your response.
Kind regards,

Re: Readynas 102 connection problem with Apple Macs
I'm running the ReadyNAS 102 with Firmware 6.4.2, accessing it from a Mac OS 10.10.5. I'm having trouble with the performance where when I open a folder, it could take a couple of minutes for the contents to display. Both are connected by wire to a Netgear R7000 router. There is also a Win10 laptop which is running wireless, which can display the contents of the folders in seconds.
Thank you

Re: Readynas 102 connection problem with Apple Macs
Hi brosnahan1114,
Is Antivirus enabled? In MAC, you can use two file sharing protocols (namely SMB/CIFS and AFP) in accessing your files.

antivirus is disabled. I tried both SMB and AFP, both ways produce the same results
