Readynas 102: first use after purchase with 2 new HDD
Hi all,
I just purchased a Readynas102, with 2 brand new 4TB HDD (from the approved netgear list). I put these two disks in the NAS after I got them, I did not format them before.
I can't seem to get the Power key to stop blinking, which is the first step before being able to go any further as far as I understand.
I tried 2 things:
1/ Put both HDDs into the NAS, then power it up (for the very first time) and wait for several hours. After almost 16 hours, I came back home, power button was still blinking and http://readycloud.netgear.com could not find the NAS
2/ Perform a factory default reset, as indicated here:
http://www.downloads.netgear.com/files/GDC/READYNAS-100/RN%20OS%206%20Desktop%20HW%20UM_02Apr2013.pdf
2/a) Power off your storage system (I removed the power cable)
2/b) Using a straightened paper clip, press and hold the Reset button
2/c) Press the Power button (I connected the power cable and the power LED turned on immediately)
2/d) Continue to press the Reset button until the Power button LED, USB and backup status
LED, disk 1 LED, and disk 2 LED light (I released the Reset button aftert that)
2/ e) Press the Backup button to scroll through boot mode options. I waited till I had only the activity led + disk1 LED light up (Factory Default Settings according to the manual)
3) Press and release the Reset button to confirm your boot menu selection
After I do that, there are different sequences of LED blinking, but I never reach the "non-blnking" power LED state.
How long am I supposed to wait ? Am I missing a step ?
Thanks

Does RAIDAR see the NAS?
Also, you do have 90 days of free phone support. That might be the quickest option to resolving this.

Hi DenisNas102,
You missed a step when you did factory default.
you need to press backup button to confirm again when there are different sequences of LED blinking.
if you don't press backup button for confirm, you will wait for 10 minutes, then system continue to do factory default.

Re: Readynas 102: first use after purchase with 2 new HDD
I had the same problem and I solved very quick:
the problem is if you use pre-formatted HDD (i.e. NTFS formatted).
You must erase them by windows following this instruction:
http://www.techsonsite.co.uk/blog/readynas-duo-v2-corrupt-root-error/
Then reinstall the HDD into ReadyNas and boot again. My RN102 now works fine.
