Readynas 102 volumes disappeared
Hi there.
I need your help to save my data. My volumes disappeared after I started up my ReadyNas this morning. The system now shows the message: "Remove innactive volumes to use the Disk: n1,2."
I have 2 disks that were in redundant mode and the data is not backed up somewhere else. So, I am afraid of loosing my data.
How could you help me on it?

Re: Readynas 102 volumes disappeared
Do you see what appears to be two volumes in the admin GUI (like data and data-0)?
The first thing to try is to boot up in read-only mode (from the power-on boot menu) with just drive 1 and just drive 2. If you can access your files, then make an immediate backup.
If that doesn't do it (and it's a long shot that it will, but it will do no harm so long as you're in read-only mode), then there are things you can try via SSH and the Linux command line. But knowing what to do without making things worse takes some analysis (which the Netgear mods may provide for you) and some knowledge of Linux. This is not a good time to start learning Linux since doing the wrong thing can make matters worse. So if that's beyond your comfort level, then it's best to contact Netgear support, who can likely at least mount your volume as read-only so you can back up the data. RAID recovery software, which requires you to connect at least one of the drives to a PC, may also help, as may other data recovery services. But we've not yet established that you need something as drastic as RAID recovery. It sounds more like a BTRFS issue.
Once you get a backup, you can factory default the NAS and restore the data. And then consider that you really should keep that backup up to date for any future issues of a similar nature, failure of the hardware, etc.

Re: Readynas 102 volumes disappeared
Thank you for your answer Sandshark.
I'm not in fact confortable with command lines but before contacting support I've tried several times to access via read only mode but I do not get access to the Admin page. After trying it also on direct connection I've been blocked.Waiting the 5 minutes did not work, so I reinstalled the OS and now I cannot even access the nas.
My web navigator tells me the server refused the connection. Installed RAIDar to check the IP and it tells me the NAS is healthy and that the disks 1 and 2 are healthy too. The IP address remains the same.
Anything else I could do before signing up to the support?

If you didn't try these tests, then I'd do them before contacting support:
- boot read-only with only disk 2 installed
- If that also fails, boot read-only with only disk 1 installed
Power down the NAS when removing/replacing the disks. I recommend labeling the disks by slot as you remove them, so they won't get mixed up later.

Re: Readynas 102 volumes disappeared
Reinstalling the OS did change the admin password back to the default of password, so is that what you are trying?
When waiting the appropriate time for the admin GUI to allow you in after a bad password attempt, getting continually locked out is usually not the fault of the NAS, but of your browser continuing to send the wrong password because you saved it there.

Re: Readynas 102 volumes disappeared
I tried all the solutions proposed and did not succed in having the Gui on my web browser. So, I decided to contact support in the coming week. Time is not on myside right now so, I need an appropriate time to contact Netgear.
I will post as soon as I have contact with the support.
Thanks for now.
