Readynas Copy

Hi

I have a RN312 (firmware 6.10,0) and a RN Duo RN2000 V1 (Firmware 4.1.16) with same hard Disks

I cannot backup automatically the master RN312 to slave backup RN Duo

Can someone help   ? Any software I should use ?

Re: Readynas Copy

I do this myself, and there is no need to install software.  You can use the built-in rsync backup jobs to back up the RN312 to the Duo.

If you want to put the Duo on a power schedule, then you have to run the backup jobs on the Duo ("pulling" them from the RN312).  If the Duo will always be on, then you can run them on either NAS ("push" or "pull").

There is an advantage to "push" - the RN312 will make a snapshot first, and back up the snapshot.  That ensures that the backup is coherent (capturing all the files at the same time).  This doesn't matter if the backup is done off-hours, but if you want to make a backup while the NAS is being updated, then you might consider "push".

I suggest doing share-by-share backups.

There are a couple of guides.

https://kb.netgear.com/20258/Using-Rsync-to-Backup-between-x86-ReadyNAS says it is for 4.2 firmware, but it should also work for 4.1.16.

https://kb.netgear.com/29741/How-do-I-back-up-data-between-two-ReadyNAS-OS-6-systems-using-the-backu... is for the OS 6 side.

The backups work pretty much the same way in both NAS, the UI presentation of the options is what is different.
