Readynas NV+ dropping connection.

I have had this unit up and running for a couple years now and it has worked fine.

now all of a sudden I went to watch a movie through it and a bit in the movie froze. The NV+ had stopped sending data.

When I unplug it and reboot it, it connects and I can access the control page where all the hard-drives are in great shape then shortly after being in there again it stops talking to the network.

Is my unit's NIC failing ?

I have tried changing out the switch for a router, did the exact same thing. Everything worked for a short bit then stopped communicating.

As I said before this was working fine on the network, all of a sudden I am having this issue!

Re: Readynas NV+ dropping connection.

I have exactly the same problem with my Duo.

The on/off button at the front doesnt work, so I need to unplug power. Then it apperas on the network for a few mintes up to an hour. I did manage to upgrade to latest firmware yesterday, but probem persist. I rebbooted the megabit switch. I am on over 99% disk utilisation.

I have no idea on how I should do to upload some log to internet.

Hi there, is there really no hint? I also have an NV+ on the same network, which runs like a clock.

Could it be too high diskutilization that kills the processor?

Re: Readynas NV+ dropping connection.

Have reduced data down to 95% of disk. Gets tjis message when rebooting - then it dies -

ATA error count has increased in the last day. Disk 1: Previous count: 6566 Current count: 6580 Disk 1 did not pass SMART self-assessment test. Please replace this disk as soon as possible. Growing SMART errors indicate a disk that may fail soon. If the errors continue to increase, you should be prepared to replace the disk.

Does the background for this messaga cause the nas to disconnect from the network (and the powebutton to fail)? If so, ill replace the disk, if not - well, what is it then?

Re: Readynas NV+ dropping connection.

That is a huge ATA error count. When a disk is failing that badly it can cause all sorts of issues. It needs to be replaced. NetGear would recommend replacing a disk with an ATA error count that reaches 50. You should have been warned to replace that disk a while ago now when the ATA error count was much lower.

Re: Readynas NV+ dropping connection.

Wonderful, thank you! So I look at the disk specification, get a new one, bring it home, shut down the nas, take out the old disk, put in the new disk, start the nas and from the it will take care of itself?

Yes. Get a new disk from the compatibility list: http://www.readynas.com/hard_disk_hcl
