Replicate & 6.2.2

Hi,

We have two RN314's. The intention is to run one onsite as the main LAN storage (AD controlled) and the send offsite as a replicate backup for disaster recovery.

The sales websites and the product manual both say that Replicate is available with the latest version of the software, however Netgear front line support were unsure, I was promised a callback from the next support level to discuss but haven't heard back.

Anyone here got any experience/knowledge of this?

Re: Replicate & 6.2.2

Replicate is free with OS6 and included in the firmware.

It is a service you can enable under the Cloud tab in the Dashboard. Once it is enabled and you are logged in as as your user, you can then go to replicate.readynas.com, login there and configure Replicate backup jobs.

What is your case number?

Re: Replicate & 6.2.2

As mentioned in the support Transcript, I had added both the devices to replicate and they were both showing in replicate.netgear.com, but when we tried to run the 'Backup system' we get an error that the source device doesn't support 'backup system'

Since then we have moved one of the NAS over to Active Directory control and now Replicate is greyed out under the cloud tab (as is ReadyCloud)

Ah.

The backup system option is not supported by OS6. It is kept there as it is a supported option for our legacy x86 devices.

Backup Data is the option you need to use.

System backup is only available on OS4 Replicate, but on OS5 and OS6, you can back up all data off the volume and download the configuration separately.

The other thing to note is that the UIDs and GIDs won't match up between the two units, however if you restore the config (provided you have downloaded that) on a replacement unit (say your primary fails) then this shouldn't be a big issue, I think. You would need to redo some share config.

Re: Replicate & 6.2.2

OK,

Bit disappointed about this as it is still shown as a product feature on your website and is the reason we choose the ReadyNAS product, are their plans for it to work in a future release of software? The whole idea for us was to have a 100% identical offsite NAS duplicate that could be dropped into the LAN in case of disaster affecting the main 314.

Either way, the 'ReadyNAS replicate' button in cloud is greyed out on the 314 that is running under active directory, and is showing as offline on the replicate website. (The second 314 that is not controlled by AD is showing as available on the replicate website

Replicate is a backup solution. It's always been designed so that if disaster strikes you do need to do a restore. Replicate keeps multiple versions of files to help provide some protection against accidental file deletions etc.
