Restoring backup created with Easus ToDo Backup (9.2) causes ReadyNas 214 to stop transmitting data

Hello all

Since upgrading my ReadyNas 214 to OS 6.6.0 I have been having an issue.

First, my setup is as follows:

ReadyNas OS 6.6.0

Currently with one WD Red 5TB HDD

ReadyNas Network Adapters Bonded (Lacp Layer 3+4)

ReadyNas MTU 9216

Connected to Network GS108Tv2 with LAG setup and MTU adjusted to account for larger frames

PC connected to GS108Tv2 and running at Gb speeds with 9k Jumbo Frames enabled

PC running Windows 10 Pro (Up to date as of 18/11/2016)

When creating a System Image using Easus ToDo Backup (9.2) the image is created in approximately 11 minutes, however, when I try to restore this image from the ReadyNas (Linux or WinPe Boot Disk) the restore starts off fine (full speed) for approximately 10 minutes then data transfer from the ReadyNas ceases and eventually picks up again at a very slow rate.

The Restore then usually completes in approximately 2 hours.

The Backup File is 27.0GB in size.

After the Restore I have also occasionally lost the ability to access the ReadyNas, not just from this PC, requiring the ReadyNas to be Restarted which then restores access to it over the Network.

Does anyone know what could be causing this issue?

I have troubleshooted everything I can think of including settings (ReadyNas, Switch and PC), Drivers, Cables etc. and am currently at a loss.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks for the reply.

I Disabled IPv6 with no difference, however, I had a thought, maybe the ReadyNas is not the issue and I have now had a chance to test it.

I dug out an old SATA II HDD and tried Creating / Restoring a Backup to it.

Creation of the Backup took 10 minutes as expected and the Restore took 1 hour 40 minutes.

It seems that the issue is not with the ReadyNas but with the Backup Software.

Maybe try lowering the NAS MTU to 9000?

Thanks for the reply.

I meant to edit my original post but was not able to in time.

I did start with the NAS MTU at 9000 with the same results.

I have also checked the Port Statistics on the GS108Tv2 and there are no Receive or Transmit Errors for the NAS Ports or the PC Port so no packets are being dropped.

Also, I ran a test by copying the Backup File (27GB) from the NAS to the PC using Explorer and during the copy it does drop down to 0MB/s occasionally and then gradually picks up again to the usual 110MB/s.

Also, I have checked and the Realtek Nic Drivers are upto date

Hello

I have been doing more testing and am now more confused.

I tried restoring a backup to a different computer (Laptop) which has a different Realtek NIC (10/100).

This Laptop is a low specification model with a Core 2 Duo, 2GB of Ram and an IDE HDD and the backup restores in 35 minutes as opposed to the near 2 hours for the PC which has an Intel Q9650, 8GB of Ram and SATA WD Black HDD.

Is ethernet flow control enabled on the PC?

Did you try setting the MTU on the PC to 1500?

I have tried Enabling / Disabling Flow Control and also Enabling / Disabling Jumbo Frames with no effect.

Unfortunately, I now believe there are other issues here.

I have been doing testing today and I noticed that the Bond on the ReadyNas had failed as shown below:

After this, I performed an OS Reinstall in case any system files had been corrupted.

Once this was completed I noticed that only eth1 was showing as Active even though the lights on the back of the unit were lit for both adapters as shown here and also both show as Active on the GS108Tv2 Switch:

No matter what I do I am unable to get eth0 to obtain an IP Address.

Any suggestions on this?

For now I have disabled the Bond however that is something I would like to utilise as I have an HTPC that stores its Media on the ReadyNas.

I believe there is a bug in the current software where bonds don't disappear when you delete them. Likely you should also remove the (hopefully unused) NIC cable for now.

On the main problem, I see you have IPv6 enabled.  Disable that (it can create performance issues)
