Retry startup/Management service is offline #25334432
Hi.
My RN314 has been running along happily until this morning when it stopped responding. I tried rebooting and got a retry startup message. I've tried several more times today and still had the same message so I've tried and OS reinstall. This reinstalled to 6.2.4 and the nas appeared to boot successfully but there was no admin interface. Shares were accessible and ssh was available. I managed to ssh into the server and look at the apache2 logs from another post. My error is not the usual app has been uninstalled problem. It referred to an error in the fvadmin.conf file saying the DocumentRoot must be a directory. I've take a look at the file and it is looking for a folder called /frontview/dashboard which doesn't seem to exist.
I tried the OS reinstall again, and then again a couple more times just in case, but nothing changed. I eventually thought it might be a good idea to install the 6.3.3 beta 12 using the flash update method. This was not a good idea as I am now back to the retry startup message and now raidar says the management service is offline and reinstalling the OS does not help. I have not in any way touched or modified any other files other than doing the OS reinstall.
Any advice/assistance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks 🙂

Re: Retry startup/Management service is offline
I've plugged a keyboard and monitor in and the system boots to the linux prompt and I can log in as root and take a look around so that's at least something.

Re: Retry startup/Management service is offline
Turns out the 4GB OS partition was filled with a huge 1.3GB /var/log/btmp file. This suggests some ports were open and there were a large number of brute force attempts to hack in.

mdgm. You're a hero. I've managed to get the network settings reset as well and everything is behaving itself. I'll find a way to get the btmp file to you shortly.
Thanks so much for your expert help. 🙂
