Rsync backup job reports false success

After taking on the 6.10.4 firmware update on both local and remote NAS boxes, my daily rsync-over-ssh backup job reports a false success.  It returns immediately, but no files are transferred or updated.  Here's the e-mailed log.Screenshot 2021-01-31 163631.jpg

The sending NAS box is a ReadyNAS 314; the receiving NAS box is a ReadyNAS 104.

Ominously, the release notes for 6.10.4 allege that there were bug "fixes" related to this.  Has anybody else seen issues?  Should I downgrade back to 6.10.3?

This has been reported already.  For now the best thing to do is drop back to 6.10.3.

Would be nice with some kind of update from Netgear on this, though.

Agreed.  It happens on every system, so there's no issue with them reproducing it.

Re: Rsync backup job reports false success

Is it necessary to downgrade both the sending and receiving machines to 6.10.3 or can I, for example, only downgrade the sending machine?

Re: Rsync backup job reports false success

You need to downgrade the one running the backup.  So if it's a "push" job, the sender.  If a "pull", then the receiver.

Re: Rsync backup job reports false success

I downgraded to 6.10.3 on the sending machine, and the problem went away.

Any word on a real fix for this issue?  I noticed that one of my other machines, an RN214, took on a "hotfix update" to 6.10.4, but I could not find any release notes for this.  Does this hotfix properly resolve the issue?

No.

It does fix an issue with AntiVirus definitions not being updated.

Re: Rsync backup job reports false success

I notice that Netgear has released a version 6.10.5.  Does anyone know if this release addresses the backup false-success issue?  I couldn't tell from reading the release notes.

It doesn't.

Also, several folks here have reported that they can't log into the web ui after they upgrade.  I haven't had that problem myself, but I don't recommend upgrading to 6.10.5 until it is resolved.
