Shares / Users / Passwording Etc

Hi

I have loved my ReadyNas RN104 ever since I've got it and it works beautifully with my Media server in another room.  I have created several shares on it and until recently all have been accessable by anyone (Anonymously).  I have moved a large amount of data (670GB) from one share to another and now I want to protect this data by not allowing anyone but myself (as Admin) to view it at all.  I run Windows 7.  I really am not sure about all this networking stuff and need a step by step guide as to what to do.  The GUI has changed since I last explored all this so am even more confused than before!  What I want to do is allow all my other shares to remain as before.  If another PC user trys to access them, I want them to be able to do so without any password prompts but when they try to login to my new "Documents" share, I want Windows to request the usual Username/Password prompt.  At the moment the whole ReadyNas is protected so when someone trys to access any share it brings up the Windows Username/Password prompt.

Can someone tell me what to do please?  I guess I need to get back to the way things were originally but I'm frightened of deleting stuff - I have over 7TB of data stored and cannot allow anything to be deleted at all.

So I'm hoping someone can give me a solution accordingly.

I would be most grateful for help here.  If you need screen shots, I can provide if I can be told how to upload them.  I'm running the latest Firmware 6.6.0 although when I initially login on my PC, the creen still shows 6.5.1 - not sure why.

Thanks

roz

The best advice is to read the User Manual HERE and scroll to page 67

Also if your data is so crucial I strongly advise you to have another copy as a backup plan somewhere else.......like a USB disk or two

Re: Shares / Users / Passwording Etc

Most helpful, thank you very much !  I'll start studying asap - I see there is an option to click "reset" on each share, to place sharing etc back to it's default.  Can I assume by doing this that the share's data will not be deleted?

No the data will not be deleted, it merely resets file access rights
