Snapshots not shown on Windows client, but they are physically there

Hi All,

ReadyNAS 312 v6.4.1

I have snapshots enabled for many shares and they are taken - so far, so good.

But on a windows share, only older snapshots are shown. This is what shows up in windows:Windows Share

Newer snapshots are not shown.

This is my GUI-Timeline of the same share:

Timeline

And finally what's in the file system using MC/SSH:

Filesystem

So what can I do to show these and future snapshots again in my SMB shares?

Looks fine.

Could you try disabling snapshot access for the shares then re-enabling it?

Alreday tried this, this made the snapshots disappear and reappear as shown 😞

Have you tried using Windows' built-in Previous Versions function?

Re: Snapshots not shown on Windows client, but they are physically there

Not yet ... I even did not know that this was supported 🙂

ok, it works, but this solution is not that comfortable because it depends on using windows explorer.

I hardly want them show all show up as before.

As I tested using Windows 7, I now tried XP (ugly, I know) which is interesting - you see the difference:

WinXP

That brought me right to the solution, If i turn on showing hidden/system files in Win7 (as I have in XP) the newer versions also show up. So anything has changed sometime (I believe with a firmware update) that snapshots are marked as hidden now (which makes no sense to me).

Anyway now I know more about this ...

Re: Snapshots not shown on Windows client, but they are physically there

As I looked further into this issue it turned out that this issue was related to setting SMB to SMB v2.1 with the SMB PLUS App.

I now set it to SMB v3.0 (which I belive is the default setting if SMB PLUS is not installed) and everything is fine again, all snapshots show up even if I hide hidden/system files in Wndows 7.

One day later ... problem is back. Now switching between SMB versions does not help anymore 😞

Hello shen,

Maybe try the 6.4.2 (RC1).

Hm, I cannot see anything in the changelog that might be related to my problem - do you know more about this?

I don't know if the beta would make any difference, however if Windows' built-in Previous Versions function is working fine, then it is functioning as intended.

But then it makes no sense to make the folder "snapshots" visible to the user if there is no (or not all) content shown inside.
