Squeezecenter on a Duo v2 ?
Hi all -
Sorry if this is a newbie question 🙂
I just bought a ReadyNAS Duo via Ebay, with the specific intention of using it to stream music to my Squeezebox. I had a good look through the comparison chart on here, and saw that Squeezecenter is listed as available for a Duo (but not a v2).. and so the box I bought, was advertised as a straight 'Duo'.
However - It arrived today - and according to the sticker on the bottom, it's a 'ReadyNAS Duo RND2000 v2'.
As far as I can tell, being a noob, the main diference is the CPU architecture - so I can see why Squeezecenter might not necessarily exist for both models. However - question is - am I in luck ? Is the comparison chart perhaps out of date, and maybe I CAN still get Squeezecenter (Logitech Media Server, or whatever they are calling it nowadays) for my NAS. Or - failing that - a third party streaming media manager perhaps ? It's a lovely little box, and I don't want to send it back... and also, I guess a v2 is actually a better product ?
Any comments most gratefully received - thanks in advance

Check out this thread over at the Squeezebox Community Forums... Logitech Media Server (formerly SqueezeCenter and Squeezebox Server) version 7.7.2 is available as a beta currently for the v2 models.

The label is not definitive. See this guide: http://www.rnasguide.com/2012/01/09/how ... -or-nv-v2/

A quick way to tell is to look at the firmware version. 5.x.x is v2, 4.1.x is v1.

Re: Squeezecenter on a Duo v2 ?
Thanks for that, virgiliomi.
StephenB has kind of put me to rights, though - Firmware on my box is v4.1.4 so I guess it's clear I have a v1.... I admit I was rather surprised at the suggestion of the label, since as I understand it, the v2 has not been out long, and the print date on my 'quick start' guide is 2008. 🙂
Sorry for the newbie question guys.
Cheers - Chris.

Re: Squeezecenter on a Duo v2 ?
Yes that's a v1. 4.1.4 (http://www.readynas.com/RAIDiator_4_1_4_Notes) was released September 2008. It's very old firmware. If you haven't loaded much data yet, I'd suggest
1. Update to latest firmware (currently 4.1.8: http://www.readynas.com/RAIDiator_4_1_8_Notes)
2. Backup your data
3. Verify backup is good
4. Do a factory default (wipes all data, settings, everything: http://www.readynas.com/kb/faq/boot/how_do_i_reset_the_readynas_to_factory_default)
5. Restore data from backup
This will give you a clean setup on the latest firmware. A factory default on 4.1.7 or later gives support for 4k sector disks (useful when you eventually wish to use 2TB disks).

Re: Squeezecenter on a Duo v2 ?
Hi mdgm -
Cool, thanks for confirming that :-). Yes, I do need to flash the thing; thanks for the link to the latest f/w. Luckily I have literally just set it up; got the drives mirrored etc but nothing else, there's no data on there yet.
...In which case, is there still a reason to do the factory default ? I guess that's not 'usual' when you do a f/w update on these things.. but are you suggesting that just becasue, as you say, 4.1.4 is such a long way removed from 4.1.8 ? I already had to do a full factory reset when I first set it up, becasue my drives were already formatted NTFS and it din't like them of course...
Also - at the risk of pushing my luck - do you have any idea if there was a problem with Squeezecenter on 4.1.4 ? I coudl not for the life of me get it to start, last night...
Cheers
Chris

A factory default on 4.1.7 or later will give you 4k sector partition alignment. See Why you might want to factory reset a Sparc ReadyNAS
