Stuck at "ReadyNAS" on LCD, won't boot (ticket #18896558)
I've had my ReadyNAS Ultra 6 for about 2 months and a couple weeks ago I added a 3rd disk. Everything was working fine, but over the weekend I was getting errors:
However, if I looked at Front View and clicked the SMART+ button next to that drive, it listed no errors.
I selected to reboot the box and checked the two boxes to have it perform the Volume & Quota checks. However, when the box rebooted, it just says "ReadyNAS" on the LED and doesn't come up or show up in RAIDar/connect to network. I tried the boot menu, but it doesn't work--never changes from "ReadyNAS" on the LED. If I pull the drives, it boots.
I spent over two hours on the phone with support yesterday but didn't get anywhere, and was told not to try to swap the 3rd drive yet since couldn't run the disk check to be sure that was the issue.
(running 4.2.20)
New SMART disk errors detected!
Disk 3 did not pass SMART self-assessment test. Please replace this disk as soon as possible.
Growing SMART errors indicate a disk that may fail soon. If the errors continue to increase, you should be prepared to replace the disk.

Did you use a disk from the hardware compatibility list?
What are the models of disks you are using in your ReadyNAS?

Yes, new drive was same make/model as the original 2 I had in there--all Seagate green 2TB drives that were on the compatibility list.

Are they this model?: ST2000DL003-9VT166
If you power down and remove all disks (label order), can you then access the boot menu?

Yes, I can get to the boot menu if I remove all the discs. The drives are ST2000DL003 2TB 5900 RPM 64MB.

Put the NAS in tech support mode (verify that it is in this mode via the LCD) and then and only then put the disks back in (same order as before).
Forward port 23 to the NAS and let support know your IP.
Support can look at SMART stats + run disk check manually (if needed).

I already did this about 10 hours ago and have yet to hear back from any support folks.

Good. Then you'd be in the queue for a highly skilled tech to look at your unit if work on it hasn't already started. The wait time does vary. Also the disk check does take some hours to run.
