Swapping disks between ReadyNAS NV+ and NV after power supply failure?

I have both a ReadyNAS NV+ RND4000 and a ReadyNAS NV. Not too long ago when I turned on my NV+ I heard an electrical pop and the unit was dead. I'm guessing this is the power supply. (I've read these are prone to failure.) I was wondering if the NV+ and NV are similar enough so that I can put the disks from the dead NV+ into the NV to recover the data?
I am also wondering what the current options are for power supply replacements. I realize this is a very old model. I sent an email to Netgear customer support on May 28, but I have yet to receive a reply.

Yes, the drives can be moved from the NV+ to the NV. If you have the newer fanless power supply on your NV, I think you can move that to your NV+ and re-gain the LCD panel, too. To move the older power supply with fan to the NV+ would require removing the fan and swapping out the power supply cover.

One thing to watch out for - if the NV is running different firmware than your NV+ was, then it will attempt to install that firmware on the NV+ disks (either upgrading or downgrading it). If the NV firmware happens to be very old, that can create issues.
So if you go forward with this, you should first do a factory install on a spare disk (not part of the array), and update the firmware on the NV manually. If you don't know what you were running before, just install 4.1.16.
Then power down, remove the spare disk, and insert your NV+ disks (preserving slot order if you can).

Thanks for the information. I swapped the drives and am backing up the volume now.
The power supply on the NV appears to be the newer style without the fan. What are my options on a new supply? I've seen the DIY options online with varying degrees of instructions. Is this the best way to go or does anyone have better recommendations?
(Side note - this forum is very frustrating! When I logged back in it forced me to create a new forum name, but didn't let me use the old one I created - or go anywhere else. In case anyone things the user name change is odd...)

Frankly, since you have a way to recover your data, I wouldn't replace the supply. I'd take it as an omen that it's time to upgrade. If you must, the DIY way is the only thng cost effective, IMHO. The whole NAS isn't worth what they want for the drop-in ready supplies.
