Switching from X-RAID to Flex-RAID

Hello everyone,

I'm thinking about doing some changes to the RAID configuration of our NAS system to improve performance (write performance is priority)

Right now we are running a RAID 5 in X-RAID mode with 4 X 4TB HDDs

My plans is to add 2 X 1TB SSDs in the last to bays and use those for data tiering and hopefully be able to increase performance.

So my questions are:

1. Does going from X-RAID to Flex-RAID cause any downtime?

2. Does anyone have experience with SSDs for data tiering?

       Does it increase performance?

What should i be aware of?

When using 2 SSDs should i choose RAID 0 for the best performance and most space, or choose RAID 1 for reliability?

I'd appreciate any input.

Cheers,

Benny

Choose RAID-1.  Otherwise you'll lose the volume when the time comes to replace one of the SSDs.

Normally it doesn't.  But I haven't used ReadyTier, so I have no direct experience with that.
