UPS with RS232

I looked at the UPS sub-forum but couldn't find the answer so I thought I'd post in the general section in case anyone has tried this...

I have an earlier UPS (an old Belkin model but very reliable) that communicated with my old server (a modified PC) by RS232.

Now the NAS obviously uses USB but is there any way I could use an RS232/USB convertor ?

They work fine on a PC USB port but they require a device driver to be installed on the PC before they work.

Presumably the same scenario would apply to the NAS, ie, it would need a driver installed to recognise the USB as a RS232 input/output.

If so, how would this be done, or is it just totally impossible (and I need to buy a newer UPS).

Thanks.

(ReadyNAS Ultra 2, firmware 4.2.17)
