Ultra4 - Boot - Stuck Updating FW - 4.2.18 (#16208637)
I was trying to update to FW 4.2.18 for the Mac OS Lion compatibility. But after rebooting for the upgrade, the NAS is not coming up. The front panel says: Booting...updating FW. This has been going on for the last 2 days. I did OS reinstall, but no cigar. Any help is appreciated.
Thanks,
Saogat

Could you give us a little more information - how many and what make/model of drives are installed?
Do you have a current and complete backup?

Hitachi Deskstar 7K3000. I was able to get to tech support today. They are in the process of tunneling into the NAS to try to fix it. I will update with the results. Hoping for they will be able to fix it. Thank you for your help.

Update - Tech went into the NAS and did something last night and left me a message to reboot it and that it should be in 4.2.18. But, when I rebooted, I am still getting...'Booting...Updating FW...' for the last 3 hours.

Get back with tech support and let them know what the results were. It may take several tries. A corrupted download that passes verification is not common but does happen. This is one reason we always say to ensure a current and complete backup before upgrading firmware. Murphy is always lurking.

Thanks! I did call back tech support yesterday around noon eastern and put the NAS back in the debug mode per their instructions. I wanted to wait and see if the issue was resolved before I give my update here, but I haven't heard from them yet. So still waiting.

Re: Ultra4 - Boot - Stuck Updating FW - 4.2.18 (#16208637)
TechSupport has helped bring the system up! In the FrontView it says the FW is 4.2.17. But, in the logs I see this:
"Tue Jul 26 17:33:54 EDT 2011 Your ReadyNAS device has been updated with a new firmware image. (RAIDiator-x86 4.2.18)."
And TimeMachine backup is saying:
"The network backup disk does not support the required AFP features.
Open Time Machine preferences to select a different backup disk."
So looks like it is still at 4.2.17.
Still I am delighted to have my NAS back! Thanks much!
