Updated to 6.9.4 - System Overview Continues to Show 6.9.4 (RC2)

Following the official release, the online pushed firmware notification, we accepted the update (several x86 based RN). Rebooted of course (update some 10..15 minutes as of writing), while the Logs show...

System: Firmware was upgraded to 6.9.4

...the Overview does state...

Firmware: 6.9.4 (RC2)

Checking for updates does state we're current.

Hi @schumaku

OS 6.9.4 update is now official but I don't think it is in the update server now. It can be manually updated by downloading the firmware here.

Are you certain that your firmware update settings is not set to BETA?  I just updated our NAS with the one from the Support site and overview shows no RC2.

You might have updated the NAS to Beta firmware.

Hope this helps!

Hi Marc,

Yes, these RN were set to the Beta update feed. One would expect that a production version which is newer than a Beta will become available on this feed, too

Changing to the Stable feed does also state the firmware is current:

Beta to Stable - latest firmware.PNG

In either case, there is something systematically wrong with the version information - obviously what is shown in the logs (6.9.4) does not match the version shown in the overview (6.9.4 (RC2)) - so I'm far away from accepting a manual install (which might fix things) as a solution.

Of course you might be right and the 6.9.4 has not made available to the live update yet.

Regards,

-Kurt

Hi @schumaku

Since your NAS is set to Beta it would give you notification for the RC2 since it's the latest Beta release. Changing it to Stable will give you current firmware notice since it's already on 6.9.4 and that the official firmware is not yet uploaded to the Update servers.

The production version should be available and uploaded on the Update servers by next week, and your NAS should be notified of this update. If you find the reply helpful I would like to encourage you to click on the accept solution button for other users to benefit on the thread as well.

Many thanks!

No doubts about the live update is delayed from manual download, not so difficult to understand as one might assume there is a policy e.g. if the support and community feedback on a new build is "normal", stat feeding the live update say after some five to ten days.

Again for the records:

The point is that the log entry is wrong! Something is not consistent when it comes to the versioning and designations. The log entry must show as "x.y.z-Tnn" or "x.y.z (RCn)" when Betas/Test/RC are installed.

The logs shows "x.y.z" the status "x.y.z (RCn)", what is not the same. Bug, faulty designation handling, poor release management, whatever.

-Kurt

On more: On the login "splash" page, it shows 6.9.4-RC2. Two different formats for the very same.

There's always a lag between release and live update - usually at least a week.

Re: Updated to 6.9.4 - System Overview Continues to Show 6.9.4 (RC2)

Yes @StephenB, I'm perfectly aware of common release processes. However, this is not what I'm complaining about here.

If a log says "Updated to 6.9.4" I expect it t be 6.9.4 as released to the public, and neither an 6.9.4-RC2 or 6.9.4-T53 or whatever. Obvious problem with careless log handling.

There should not be endless discussions about an obvious error.
